Josh, I don’t like cartoons, anime or any of the sort, and even don’t like certain comics just because of the way it is drawn. I’m a live action guy through and through and yet with X-Men 97 I watched the first couple episodes to avoid FOMO but now I am so completely drawn in that I actually forget I am watching a cartoon as it has gotten me that invested in the characters and it has also done a great job with the medium in being able to do things that live action can’t. Although at the same time just imagine if that Gambit vs the Godzilla Sentinel scene would have been in a movie it would have been bananas and nobody would be saying Marvel is going anywhere. 4:47

That part. This is a great point because there was pandemonium when the original X Men cartoon came out in the 90s. But when Fox rolled out the live action films, they just couldn't stand up to the animated series. Lightning could strike twice and doom the MCU X Men films. That is unless, they hire Beaux back to write the screen play.

I hear you on this one. Every episode on X-men has been amazing to my surprise. Going to Bad Batch right after made me question the plans within Star Wars too. Last episode left me “meh” when it was finished. BB has been good but in comparing the two X-men 97 has just been touch topics with comic fandom in another level. As an Andor I can say it’s a fresh take close to the Rogue One tones. They need something fresh within the lore of the galaxy. I honestly hate that everything has to be about Jedi’s and Sith. Give me the criminals on Level 1313 or more life on the shipyards of Corellia. There is so much material to work with but quality really does matter.

truth. i enjoy Bad Batch much more than Clone Wars, but I'm not chomping at the bit waiting for the next episode. i basically watch it when it comes out for something to watch. But i could take it or leave it right now. xmen 97, is constantly on my mind, especially after episode 5. Ep 6 I was a bit, Meh, but ep 5 i watched a heap of reaction videos just to experience it all again along side someone else. I wouldn't bother with reaction videos for Bad Batch. I want story. Deep and thoughtful story. and Character. and respect for the lore (even if it has changes for this version). I even don't mind little hints of potential love interests changing from canon as long as it is just hints for fans to play with. So far xmen97 is ticking all the right boxes for me.

I agree. I feel the same way about Jujutsu Kaisen. It's not heavily narrative driven or the most prestige writing, but I'm invested in the characters and their development ontop of the circumstances the set the wheels in motion made for a great season 2 and was anime of the year.

I think that the difference is that pull/push at the end of each episode. Bad Batch is telling a longer story, but there isn’t as much “undertoe” to pull you in every week. That being said, I am enjoying BB, but I prioritize watching 97 first. 🤘🤘

I will say the one huge difference here is that X-Men 97 is adapting already great stories while Star Wars has to come up with original ones so that is why one is so much better because it is drawing from classic source material. That doesn’t mean making X Men was easy because as we know they often mess up adapting it.

Disagree. As the last few years of Marvel show, drawing from pre-existing source material is not an automatic recipe for success. If anything, it's easier to mess up if you don't understand and respect what made that source material work in the first place, which has been Marvel's biggest issue for years now.

To be fair XMen 97 is based on the comics of Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. Yes they made the number 1 best selling single American comic book ever back in 1991 of the X-MEN. X-men 97 is doing a good job of molding the story to fit the show while still keeping important features from some of the best comic books in history. Top notch source material with great adaptations to the animation is pretty hard to compete with.

BB is a bit repetitive. Omega has been captured 3 times now. A lot of episodes have a similar fetch quest structure. And there is a lot of filler. I think that the BB creators love star wars and I think there has been some good episodes but it is not a perfect show.

I was a huge Clone Wars fan. I LOVED when they released season 7 and introduced the Bad Batch. I got halfway through season 1 of their series and shut it off. The team became wimps and Omega is beyond annoying. Disney is actively destroying the franchise I grew up loving.

I have to agree, I took like half a week before I watched last weeks episode and I have yet to watch today's episode. Honestly, I don't have any real desire, which is a shame. Compared to Xmen 97 and Invincible, I can't fucking wait for each episode lol. Bad Batch is great but one thing I'm noticing more and more is that I don't really like the pacing and flow of dialog in the show. It feels slow and formulaic. There's certainly some great moments but very few I wish to look back at or really end up sticking with me. I certainly have no desire to rewatch an episode. It could be chalked up as personal taste

If it leads to character growth and changes in relationships which stick, then it's by definition not filler. Ep04 developed the Character of Jubilee, and her relationship with Roberto, so it's not filler. And like you said, it was necessary pacing-wise before ep05. The issues with it is that most of the main cast was absent, which is why it feels so disconnected; and -in my opinion- the first 4 and a half minutes of LifeDeath (until Forge's "failure" to cure Storm) should have been at the beginning of the episode. Also, there should not be "I love yous" between Storm and Forge until next season. It's just too soon in this story, just show them being there for each other and spare us the grand declaration until latter.

I think Andor also has the issue of being the furthest away from the other star wars projects when it comes to drama. I'd argue its the best star wars show especially when it comes to writing, acting, and production value. But it's also the least star wars like star wars show. It's not a show designed for hype but rather a show designed with a purpose and meaning.
