In the comics the X-Men split into two teams: Blue and Gold. This was during Jim Lee’s run and saw the X-Men ditch their 80’s uniforms for the now iconic ones they have in the cartoon. Similarly, in X-Men 97, they split up into the Blue and Gold teams and also go through a wardrobe change. But in a clever reversal of the comics, the X-Men revert to their 80’s costumes. I thought it was a fun little nod.

One of the real-life practical reasons for two teams in the comics was that the X-Men's roster had grown to the point where it was a storytelling nightmare to have to try to keep every character moving all the time, and they had the creative talent to work two major titles. The IP also had the popularity to sell two books a month instead of one. It solved creative problems, it created financial incentive, and it gave fans more freedom to select the books that featured their favorite team member(s). The creative teams were close enough to allow interchangeable character use, so familiar characters still showed up in the pages of each, but with a team-focused narrative, the writers weren't pressured to give so many characters spotlight in their pages; there were now two books to spread that significant spotlight over, so there was more creative freedom. The teams in `97 at the end are a nice nod to that, but unless they fork the series into two, it doesn't achieve any of the beneficial effect for the audience or for the creative team, that it did in the comics, because it doesn't create any additional bandwidth in the medium. Given how rushed `97 was, and how hard it worked to force so much content in, it would certainly benefit from the extra bandwidth, but I doubt very much that's going to happen. They showed a clear inclination in `97 to not deal with bandwidth problems at all and just cram in a ton of content without fully committing to any of it.

Cyclops’ “Would you prefer black leather?” to Cable around 11:28 is a direct reference to Cyclops asking Wolverine if he’d prefer yellow spandex in the first X-Men film. Very nice nod by the writers. 👌🏻

I truly adore how well this show adapted storylines like the Inferno storyline, Fatal Attractions, E is for Extinction and Operation Zero Tolerance. I love how the writers knew that when it came to those stories there are tons of convoluted context from the comics and multiple different writers and interpretations of said characters. Therefore for this show they smartly chose to use what worked about those stories and apply them to a TV series format that still allowed them to naturally intertwine in the show and create amazing story arcs that progressed to much a lager over arching story. For example instead of making Madelyn Pryor make a deal with the Devil himself and became the Queen of Limbo/Hell just like in the comics, they simply made her a twisted and manipulated clone of Jean created by Mr Sinister in order to give birth tot Nathan who plays a bigger part in this whole season

I love X men 97 and its the best adaptation ever. But some things i think they should've changed, and Inferno is one of them. I think that nowdays seasons are too short and try to fill season one with all that made it smaller and lost opprtunity. I think that all post genosha events should've be in season one instead. Genosha should've have been the finale. I think that season one should've been basically "x men 87" in matter of archs. I think that they should've used the 97 comics prelude to set up somethings first like what they did with Storm's hair. i would've added Psylocke (Betsy body), Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Collosus, Archangel, and Iceman in the team, also i would've add New Mutants as students with Magik, Cannonball and others... Kitty would've been added as returning menber from the past, Rachel summers too would be add, i know its too much but i know i would've did that. the issues would work as a straight continuation of Season 5 finale. BUT.

there is one thing. Bishop the last to join before the premiere. it would remain a mistery until the pieces get together in the last issue, each issue would feature one new character joining the team under Cyclops run of the Institute. BUT the point is that those stories would base and slow show that some events in TAS was different. so my point to do that is that One Man's Worth had a time travel that killed professor which gave us the non Apocalypse age of Apocalypse, so why it went in that reality an Age of Apocalypse like the comics? the answer is in the finale if TAS Season 4, Beyond Good and Evil. it happened after to us the event where the Lazarus Chamber is Destroyed in the Past, Right? but what if one mans worth happens before beyond good and evil, but after the time travel from that episode that destroyed the Lazarus chamber, the truth is that Season 5 doesn't take place o the same continuity of season 1,2, 3, it takes place in different line of events because it removed Apocalypse from the timeline, he survived in the Axys of time. One Man's Worthy also result in another timeline cause Bastion did not existed prior to the time travel that Bishop, Shard, Storm and Wolverine made to save the Professor, so its means that we have two Major time travel events that change things from the past on those episides from season 4, so i know its confusing but as a Terminator fan I'm good at that, so come with me. In One Man's worth we have Professor Dead in the past and give us an "Age of Humans" with no Apocalypse, so what if this episode happens after the destruction of Lazarus chamber in the Past, So we dont have Apocalypse and we can have an Alternate Present as Age of Apocalypse without Apocalypse, ok, but in that episode they created bastion without knowing so this also change the past, so we have an timeline with bastion and without Apocalypse after one Man's Worthy, counting that episide happens before but after the timeline changes from beyond good and evil, but in Good and evil they destroy the Lazarus Chamber, so the episido tooks place before the event that destroys Lazarus Chamber. ok? so lets continue. so in Beyond Good and Evil we have the episode in the timeline before the Lazarus Chamber destruction, the one that have Apocalypse, and in this one we do not have bastion because bastion was made in the episode derived from the events from the Lazarus Chamber continuity, this means that Beyond Good and Evil happens in the same continuity from Season 1-3 but give us One Man's Worthy continuity, them in one Man's worth we have bastion as a result in a continuity where Apocalypse do not rises, but in season 5 Apocalypse comes back, and we do not know what he fid after that, so he eventually travel back in time and rebuild Lazarus Chamber for his past self rise again, it would only be revieled in season two, but the point is that Bishop would notice that event changing times, but Apocalypse messes with him and he lost Shard in the process, this would be revelead in the las issue, without mentioning Apocalypse, he start to regain memory but can remember who is responsible but in the season one he would note that this present is different from his past, because X men 97 would take place in the continuity altered by Apocalypse returning after Bastion being added to the timeline and restouring his Lazarus chamber which take events from Season 1 that we have Apocalypse like Archangel being changed back into the continuity, but this time in the continuity that Bastion exists, so everything after season 5 finale would be in a different continuity from TAS, most events are the same but with minor differences, because happens after 3 time travels messing the timeline, but Bishop comes from the timeline where Apocalypse do mot exists, and the bastion future also do not exists, so Apocalypse would be responsible to helo bastion without knowing to make Genosha happens and also for make Jean come back, but bastion in the future from Cable from episide 7,8,9,10 would turn the table and stopped Apocalypse plans in the future, thats why Apocalypse only appears after Bastion being defeated, so Apocalypse helps Bastion to use it for his goal, Bastion finds out in the future and defeat Apocalypse, so we have Apocalypse holding until Bastion Falls... So the Issues in the Prelude i would use to slow show the differences from TAS, Like Rachel Summers, she would've be introduced in the new version of Days of Future Past, a Flashback would show how she was there with Wolverine, the episide we've seen was before bastion existis in the past and she pops up in the continuity afterApocalypse helps bastion but before Bastion defeat Apocalypse, and get wrong, so the version we see on cable's flashback would be different, so after Bishop change the past he actually solved the problem in that reality, but them Phoenix bring rachel to the present, so before Apocalypse helps bastion l, but after Bastion exists, the future was like season 1 but with Rachek, and after Bastion defeats Apocalypse the future was like 97, and after the x men defeat Bastion the future was like season 1 but with no Rachel. So with this we fix the canon for Rachel, the major one. So the next fix would to canonize somewhat pryde of the x men as a past of 97 continuity, so for do this i would have to change events from Colossus and Nightcrawler, so they now would be changed as a returning x men from pryde of x men events that would also be bit different but existis in this new continuity as a past from x men, it would add Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, maybe Longshot and Kitty also in the flashbacks from that time. but they would left before the sentinel episode, and be absent just like Polaris, Havok and Iceman, but be former x men, so in the 97 episodes and prelude from 97 Comics we would get Flashbacks to show those episodes different in the previously on X men that i would add. it would follow the Bishop talk that this timeline is different from where he comes abd remain a incognata why things are different from TAS, why in Nightcrawler and Collosus episides they knew thet were x men but the ones in our memory they do not. So I would also add a story in prelude to fix Psylocke for Fall of the Mutants arcg and introduce her brother too and switch back with Kwanon but both would remain each other's powers and abilities, so... now we are good to start 97 with all fixes we need. them the tittle would have the former x men in the rooster, Roberto would debut episide one and join new Mutants and in episode 2 Magneto would becone their teacher, all uniforms would chabge to the 80s style from the comics with Magneto, But jean will not appear in episode 2, Archangel, Psylocke, Iceman would leave the team with Magneto coming in, but Cyclops and Madelyne would stay, Episode 3 would be Life Death with Storm finding forge, but she will return, Madelyne will mess with Cyclops and the duel for the Leadership that makes Storm become Leader without powers would happen in the episode 4 where Cyclops and Madelyne leaves and Storm returns, the team so will be Magneto, Storm, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Bishop, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Morph, Kitty Pryde, and Rachel Summers and Jubilee, New Mutants would show in the opening all together and some cameos to show them studing and training and their story would happens off screen to leave opportunity for a spin off, in episode 4 in the same time we would get Motendo as happening while all this is happening. if i didn't bring Longshot in the prelude he would come here and join the team. so in episide 5 we have part of genosha, but not the massacre, we get the morlock massacre instead, with the Rogue Magneto situation the team get splited Magneto wents to Genosha with Rogue, Storm, Dazzler, Wolverine, Bishop, Longshot, Morph, and Jubilee, Magik, and Solarspot. in genosha they find out that Cyclops and Madelyne still as Jean is on Genosha and Madelyne is in the council, Havok joins the team in this episode, and all that Magneto rule with Rogue starts here. But Sinister is on the council too lol, and he uses Madelyne to telapatic control Gambit to help the Marauders massacre the Morlocks, the other team, Gambit, Beast, Collosus, Nightcrawler, Kitty goes to the Rescue, but gambit betray them, Emma founds out but Madelyne enter all x men mind to turn them against emma, and a fight in genosha happens, so while that the other team is injured, all but Beast, in episide 6 Storm left the team to get back to Forge to regain her powers and

Adversary sent them to other dimension. Magik decided to stay in Genosha with Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Kitty that falls under Moira care that now is installed in genosha and all of them leave the team. The other new mutans leaded by Cannonball comes from a failed mission, Magneto them join them with Jubille and Roberto in episode 6, Gambit blamed by Betrayal gets that conversation with Rogue that she will Rule with Magneto, he lefts and Emna found him and tell she knows the truth both go to genosha, Magneto comes from the offscreen mission devasted with the death if Cypher, in this Episode Jean comes back, But Beast change Jean and Madelyne, Cyclop and Jean comes after the last episide as guests, and them in episode 7 they all go to genosha again in the Helfire Gala, Emma is back and they think she is the enemy, Gambit see Rogue kissing Magneto, them the Finale Starts, the Massacre occurs just like went in episode 5, but on 7, with all x men there, Beast is reaveled to be Venom Beast from an alternate reality, the real Beast escapes and join in, Storm is still absent, Magneto is already pissed with the Massacre of the Morlocks and now Genosha is happening just after Cypher death, and all Sinisters Plot is revelead before it, them Cyclops, Jean, Bishop, Beast, Emma, go after Sinister, Madelyne, Nathan, Venom Beast and Havok who was seduced by Madelyne, shw was already bad and working for Sinister but them is revelead the Truth about the demon and how she become the Gloobling Queen, i would relate it with Adversary arising someway, them episode 3 happens, Magneto would arive first before genosha them left abd join the hellfire gala while the inferno goes on, but withou Madelyne turning good, instead of Morph, would be the real Magik there, would ne told that the injured recovered, but Psylocke called Nightcrawler, Rachel and Kitty to go to UK with Captain Britannia, it would input side story in off screen to be able to left a way to make Excalibur spin off. so they left Genosha before, but Collosus stay there, Magik returns for Genosha after a huge fight on Limbo with Madelyne that gain Phoenix when in Excalibur mission Rachel is splited and sent in time to becomr mother askani, them the Phoenix return to Madelyne who becomes Globliin Queen and Dark Phoenix at onde, while Genosha Massacre happens, in this meantime Bishop takes Nathan to the Future while Cable comes yo the past, but how he thinks that Madelyne was Jean, the point is that Cable doesnt know as both are now the same tellepatcly and he believes that the swich was false. But Jean dies in genosha in the place of Madelyne and now returns also as Phoenix but the White Phoenix. Gambit dies and Magneto is tough dead, and Magik dies too in genosha. after the Massacre Pixies and the new x men from grant morrison join the new Mutants, the team them go after forge and there is freedom force battling demons like the comics, Iceman and Archangel join Cyclops and Beast fighting Madelyne and Havok, Havok is freed and goes to the mansion but join Wolverine to found Storm, Psylocke also returns, the splited Rachel without Phoenix now goes with them, Longshot, Collosus and Dazzler join them them we have fall of the Mutants like the comics but Cyclops team is blue team instead of x factor and Storm team is Gold team. They died with Forge Magic, magik somewhat survived and brings Forge to the limbo and we got that fight, Roma appears and revive them. All that in episode 8 and everything Inferno, Fall of the Mutants, Genosha, Happening all at once! lol, with that we get Storm back, but then we have outback as a set up for the finale, Forge manage to Escape Limbo and create the Muir Island X Men toughting that both teams are dead, and Zero Tolerance and bastion and episide 7 and 8 happens with Excalibur coming in, the battle against Madelyne occurs in other place, and the Outback team found them and join them to finish inferno, Phoenix merge with jean totally, while Forge team Reunite with Excalibur and havok Rebuild X Factor, New Mutants new class and remain ming old class join to the final battle with Bastion, and them After deal with Madeline the Original Team (Blue) and Outback Team (gold) join the huge war with the prime sentinels them we have Magneto coming back and Fatal Atractions and Rogue, Collosus and Sunspot join them, along with more people from all teams. Professor comes back but we the Shiar Fleet lol and the Bastion bring the Skrull Shiar War to earth orbit! lol... Them we have the 97 finale much more intense but ending in the moment Magneto draw Wolverine Adamantium and Bastion manage to win, so the seasons ends with Skrulls battling fantastic four and Avangers, Magneto out of control but Bastion manage to reactivate the sentinels, battle all iver the places, and Madelyne reborning as Phoenix again lol, and them we get the Apocalypse post credit. So nothing solve and everything is a mess! and Magik and Adversary coming out from the Limbo also in the post credit. so my season 2 would start before the solving of episide 10 and with a tottaly mess filling with all vilains active and winning at once and no problem solved only Extreme battles and more and more disaster... so what yoy think of my version? lol

They also adapted elements from The Mutant Massacre with the Morlocks and even from the Krakoa era with the Genoshan Hellfire gala. So really smartly adapting what fits for the story they're telling.

Season 2 is going full planet of the Apes, showing the Rise (past timeline), War (present timeline) and Kingdom (future timeline) of Apocalypse

Impatient people may have expected Onslaught to appear in Ep.10, and may even think he was a fake out because Magneto woke up; however, since Onslaught is an entity that gestated in Xavier's psyche following that psychic mingling, it technically didn't matter whether Mags woke up or not. The deed is done. Onslaught, also takes time [in the comics] to start acting up, so maybe we'll see hints of a corrupted Xavier over a few episodes then get him. I expect the Apocalypse arcs in the past and future will play out over roughly half the season while Onslaught gets rolled in to be the secondary villain. Whether they have to side with Apocalypse in present day at some point or not to deal with Onslaught after the X-Men return to the present is left to be seen, but it's a safe bet we'll have several villains other than Ol' Poccy Lips.

I understood Forge & Bishop working together as a nod to "Dissolution & Rebirth", where Forge & Banshee lead a team looking for the X-Men, before X-Factor. Also, Genosha as a land of freedom, dance and mutant cuture reminded me of the Krakoan era.

Wolverine (Logan) should be shown drinking beers with Nightcawler (Kurt Wagner) and smoking cigs/and or.cigars since this is part of his personality. They also need to show case and explore his fascination with Japanese culture, Bushido, and his.samurai/ninja training with Ogun and relationship with Yukio and Mariko Yashida from the 1980s "Uncanny X-Men" and the "Wolverine" and *Kitty Pryde and Wolverine" limited series. I like the "X-Men '97" animated series so far.

I would say that episode 5 adapts not only "E for Extinction" arc but also in some way "The Mutant Massacre" arc, where also a lot of mutants died at the hands fo Mr. Sinister's command, primarily Morlons, also Angel got majorly wounded which led to him becoming Horseman of Apocalypse, Death, to be precise. And here we have pretty similar thing but with Gambit.

I have not read all X-Men comics, but I was wondering if the "young Apocalypse" is referring to a story from the 2010s where Beast time-jumps to ancient Egypt and meets En-Sabah Nur. It was during the "original teen X-Men jump to present day" story. I think it was teen Beast that got dumped there. It was the same story where teen Hank started to get trained in magic I believe.

I really hope my boy Archangel is alive he's a founding member of the X-Men and they treat him a side character he was there on Genosha when the mutants and morlochs were slaughtered and we saw him when that Kaiju Sentinel made that huge blast and I thought he was dead but by seeing his face on the wall with the other mutants and his picture labeled missing presumed dead it gives me some shred of hope that he's still alive.

Didnt Onslaught create the Ultimate Universe? I believe so. I expect he will show up thus effecting the already fractured time line of this series AND merging this with the MCU proper thus leading to Secret Wars and the resetting of the MCU timeline. Merging the FF, X Universe and MCU proper.

All I can say is based on the clips I've seen they greatly improved upon the Madelyne arc. I admittedly liked how it started but with the knowledge that Jean Grey was coming back at some point I knew it wasn't going to end well. Thankfully the worst of it is kept to X-Factor but still it remains the worst plot point of any Marvel comic published in the 20th century. The 97 version really did wonders not making Cyclops into a jerk.

I don't understand how a fan can find merit in forcing all these major crossover events into ten 30-minute episodes even while giving up screen time to filler crap like throwbacks to the old arcade game. It's just a nostalgia bomb, call it what it is, and enjoy it for what it is, but don't confuse that with a narrative "working." Tell a great story and tell it well. The great stories were *already provided*, so this should have been a layup, but both committing to one and telling it well turned out to be problems. `97 was beautifully animated, but to call it rushed is a gross understatement. It watched like a YT abridged series for ten to fifteen years worth of comics plus smatterings of the cultural essence of the next 20 years after that to try to include an element of pandering to modern audiences, along with several retcons which mostly serve more of the same purpose, rather than primarily tying any of the other random stuff together. Any of these stories might have been amazing if they'd just chosen to tell one, but instead it's like they sat in a room discussing which of their favorite major crossover events from the era to tell, and couldn't decide, so just went with the absurd idea to give each of them a nod instead of doing any single one of them justice. The show had great nostalgia value, and great animation. We should not be convinced by these simple measures that mashing all these stories into one "worked" on the basis of effective nostalgia. The best ways it hit nostalgia chords were the clever inclusion of iconic comic book panels, like the basketball court scene at the X-Mansion (X-Men #4, iirc), but again telling one cohesive story would have been better than what we got, which was perhaps the most palpably overt resignation to the public's lost attention span to date. I should offer a caveat to my "telling one story and telling it well" idea. In the comics, an issue will often break up the continuous narrative with one-shot stories, and mini-arcs that waylay the characters a bit. It's reasonable and normal to expect both mundane and exciting interruptions in life. Within a 10-episode series, they could probably tell one story and tell it well, while incorporating some of these "single issue" narratives, slightly condensed, here and there. Instead, they dramatically condensed the most robust stories in the title. This is not the best X-project to date, though I'll quickly admit most of the competition for that doesn't set a very high bar. The exceptions are Logan, which was amazing, and First Class, which got enough right to still be highly favorable in spite of its few failings. Honorable mention to X1, which was the trailblazer and very well received in its time.

You can call it rushed but I think they did a fine job of weaving these storyline together in a coherent fashion. There is alot of x-men history and sadly it can't be done in the entirety it deserves. Be grateful Demaeyo managed to adapt it in a way fans could find enjoyable.

The avengers arcs in the MCU didn't tell the entire comic history of the avengers. They carefully chose stories, committed to them, and told them well. I'm sure `97 has been a moneymaker, and the fans seem to be really happy with it for the most part. I think the fans should expect better. I think they're overlooking bad storytelling because of good animation, familiar voice acting, and a massive nostalgia bomb.

Well you’ll get at LEAST 4 season of this series seeing how season 1 & 2 were finished at the same time, they’re working on season 3 now & renews for season 4 after the success of this release. Hopefully early 2025 we should get season 2!
