The X-Men saga, encompassing everything from the standalone Wolverine flicks to the ensemble blockbusters, has been a rollercoaster of cinematic triumphs and letdowns. Just a couple of years after a franchise reboot introduced a new era for the beloved mutants, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" arrived, blending elements from the original and rebooted series in a daring crossover that could have easily nosedived into disaster.
Fortunately, the gamble paid off spectacularly, launching what is arguably one of the franchise's crowning achievements. Directed by Bryan Singer, the mastermind behind the original X-Men films, the film is loosely based on the comic book storyline by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, from a script penned by Simon Kinberg, Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn.
Boasting an all-star ensemble, including but not limited to Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart, the film interweaves two distinct time periods. In a bleak future, mutants and their human allies face annihilation at the hands of formidable robots called Sentinels, leading to a desperate gathering of key X-men. Here, Xavier reveals a pivotal moment in 1973: the capture of Mystique’s DNA following her assassination of Dr. Bolivar Trask, the Sentinels' creator. This event led to the creation of the seemingly invincible Sentinels that have either imprisoned or wiped out the majority of mutants and their human allies.
With the world at its end, Xavier proposes a daring plan to alter history and avert this grim future. Utilizing Kitty Pryde’s unique ability, they aim to send someone back to 1973 to unite the younger Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Their mission is to persuade Mystique to abandon her fatal plan, and Wolverine emerges as the only one capable of enduring the physical toll of time travel. The critical question looms: Can Wolverine successfully intervene in the past, halt the Sentinel Program, and thereby save mutants and their human allies from obliteration. Or is this future doomed to repeat itself? In this video, we’re gonna explore the comic series, the film, take a look at the characters, explore the rogue cut of the movie, in addition to the meaning of its ending and how the film fits in the X-men continuity.

This is probably the best rendition version of Sentinels I've ever seen than the animated Wolverine and X-Men (2009). The way this mechanical abominations adapt so quickly to counter their target is jaw dropping. They are 100x worse than the Terminators as humanity wouldn't have a fighting chance against this kind of machines. Mutants at least can only prolong their survival but not for a very long time.

I loosely remember this arc or anything having to do with Sentinels and/or the future in the ole cartoon show as being some the overall best an coolest arcs in the x-men franchise. Its like an alternate apocalypse scenario in this particular arc except Logan didn't cause this one and might be its only savior ... no pressure, Logan cant seem to catch a break. Poor X-men too, seems one wouldnt want to have powers AND be an X-men faction member too given in these later/latest arcs an stories have a pretty high mortality rate an by the end even in the best timelines for the x-men apparently had decimated mortality rates.

Whom are hinted at in enough of them that they tend to take quite a few casualties over the years. Between 1st class an "the end" which changed whom knows how many times now.

I love the X-Men..since i was a young. Days of Future past is one of my favourite stories from Claremont and Byrne. This film was absolutely brilliant in every way...the rogue cut was perfect. Except for the film Logan, this film caused a lot of unwanted anxiety in me😅 the sentinels we frightening. I still think they were way to over powered.. to adapt to any mutant threat...a robot who won't or can't die seems to much.. sunspot alone should have destroyed them, i mean he has the power of the sun. But i get it, its easier to go back in time to stop this whole thing. Still a great film. Xmen 97 is really awesome. I can't wait for season 2. Goid video mate, 👍🏻 nice one, cheers.

Around 1:50 So when Wolverine asked what if someone could heal their mind as quick as it’s being torn apart, he meant brain instead of mind? Or is the mind a physical attribute? I remember the movie specifically stating how sending someone back that far in time would rip their minds to shreds (I guess you can say pun intended). Matter of fact, the movie says absolutely nothing about the process having any kind of toll on the physical body (considering it’s not the physical body being sent back in time). Don’t mind me, I’ve always thought that didn’t make sense in this movie because if Wolverine’s mind could heal like his body does he wouldn’t have needed Professor X to help him regain his memories that were lost due to William Stryker.

The movie is really a masterpiece, and remains one of my favorites. It’s because the film actually has stakes. It has the Mega-Happy Ending (Wayne’s World), but the characters have earned it. The top Superhero films used to be “Superman: The Movie,” Tobey’s “Spiderman 2,” and “The Dark Knight,” but “Days of Future Past” has to be included in that list. Plus “Infinity War” and “End Game” - which is basically one 6hr movie (characters being at their lowest - Act 2 - at the end of IW and the beginning of EG).

More people need to do an in depth analysis of this superhero masterpiece. I really have my doubts that Bryan Singer made this movie so great. I strongly believe that he used the beautifully detailed storyboards by James Cameron. There are a lot of visual tropes that make Cameron films so timeless. Look at Jack The Giant Killer and Superman Returns next to this near perfect movie. The difference compared to Days of Future Past is like night and day. X-Men Days of Future Past is way better and far more powerful than the source material IMO. Even the title makes more sense. In my opinion, Days of Future Past is Infinity War and Endgame for grownups.
