@@lllSASlll Not disagreeing but isn't that assuming fascists couldn't also be nerds that were already on the band wagon? I mean girls started showing up at comic con because of twilight. Rather than thinking "I might have a shot at having a fun fling or possibly a girlfriend" there was outrage and gatekeeping. Sadly just like the GOP had to deal with the tea party in the 10 and 12 elections and never got back to normal, nerd community culture has it's own insane subculture.

They were so hamstrung on what they could use and obviously budget wasn't huge for it either. But they really had a passionate team behind it and everyone worked hard. Personally I'd be happy if everyone came back to play those characters in the MCU. Especially the Cuckoos actress, the scene with the sisters reuniting out of that prison still gives me chills thinking about it.

I wasn’t a rabid fan of DC Fandome, but appreciated it. It was the spiritual descendant of the Saturday Cartoon preview shows that the broadcast networks used to run every late summer. They’d get some washed-up Golden Age comedy star or sitcom second banana to host & play clips of Jabberjaw or Scooby-Doo’s Laff-a-Lympics. 9/10s of the new material was crap, but the packaging was genius… DC Fandome could have benefited from some tight editing (and some washed-up old comedians working as hosts, who could at least hit their marks and keep things moving).

Amazon: Rings of Power was watched by 25 million people Also Amazon: we're gonna vet reviews, make sure its over 3.5, and not allow more than 3000 people to review it
@MrEnKaye2 жыл бұрын
Re: LOTR:TROP I actually agree with Dan's take that if the reviews were terribly lopsided it would be disingenuous to hide reviews, as if to say "now you're just trying to make sure people aren't saying bad things". But the 10/10 reviews are MORE than the 1/10 reviews, yet those were viewable and the lower ones were not. That's what makes it feel disingenuous. I think they've made it all visible now, but IMDb being owned by Amazon and stopping people from seeing negative reviews on their multimillion dollar new franchise left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Sorry for the long comment, hope I kept it civil enough.

Alright, I'll bite. I think you guys are ignoring that people who have a complaint or objection are more likely to review than someone who was completely satisfied (notice I was motivated to respond to this and not the Rock at test screenings for example). Stopping "review bombing" is basically saying if the audience at large thinks it is bad, then it couldn't possibly be because the movie/show was actually bad, but must be because the internet is being toxic (also entirely possible, but not always true). Additionally, critics and audience scores tend to be at odds these days (could be shady dealings like a shiny new car for a good review, could be difference in taste). So the difference Dan points out as evidence of review bombing, is a weak claim. Look at Terminal List or Where the Crawdads Sing on RT and you'll see it goes the other way too (for TV and movies) where critics hate a movie or show that is well liked by the audience. Critics just aren't very representative of public opinion.
@Halomasterchief162 жыл бұрын
Quick caveat: Reviewers might also just be assigned to the wrong projects and not representative of the target audience. For example, if the LotR show is well liked by critics, but not by the audience, it might be because the audience might actually know more about the source material than the critics and might want it to be truer to source materials. Not sure in this case since I did not watch the show, but could easily see that happening if the show contradicted anything of importance from the books or previous movies.
@rivwilson93302 жыл бұрын
I don't know a lot about RT, but I was shocked to see Where the Crawdads sing's critic score, was so relieved to see the audience score was more in line with what I had in mind

@@Peecamarke Oh, I don't deny that it happens and is bad. I loved Godzilla vs Kong and was shocked it was bombed to hell and back. I just also think people are too quick to jump to that as an excuse for why reviews might be coming back bad (Godzilla vs Kong admittedly is not a masterpiece). If that is the timeline for Ring of Power's bad reviews, then fair enough. From wayback machine, all I can see is an audience score appearing for Rings of Power between midnight and 11am on Sept 2, when it released at 6pm on Sept 1. Certainly enough time for anyone truly interested in it to watch and review. My question is do Sal and Dan have a better timeline than that or are they assuming? My guess would be the latter.

@@Arclight-Arcanum it's worth noting that there are a whole three lines of dialogue in the Silmarillian whence much of this is sourced. It was also written and gather together in a haphazard way, and Tolkien was not a particularly great novelist. Add to that the fact that adaptations need to happen to translate a book to screen, because what works on the page doesn't necessarily work in life action, and there were always going to be changes. There always are. But the backlash to this is so much more than the typical "they changed it it sucks" discourse that it seems very obvious certain people are stirring the pot intentionally. They've done this before with movements like gamergate where they use a pop culture issue that they actually don't care about to sheepdog normies into right-wing politics. That's how they operate, they've done it before, and I'm getting kind of tired of dumbasses falling for their schtick.
@everettjohnson93742 жыл бұрын
@@Arclight-Arcanum Yes, they also did that in the peter jackson movies, they changed whole characters or removed them and put others in their place. This is an adaptation of his works and was NEVER going to be a one to one from the novels and I went in expecting that. So they weren't being disrespectful or tried to make it sound like they knew better than tolkien, that's how YOU feel when you watch it. Its artificial anger

They revealed the joker's real name. That's news worthy? That's actually important? Why would someone care if they did. First off like was pointed out in the video it's not like it's going to stick. Like anything else that was revealed about the joker it'll become nebulous at best if it's cannon after a couple years. Awesome off tho I'm not one to think that it's very important to keep the joker mysterious. It's cool that they do but if they find him a definitive name, origin, and reveal everything else about him I don't think it takes away from who he is. But that's a moot point since as I said I don't think the real name or anything else they might reveal will stick.
@fowlowl77842 жыл бұрын
People have an obsession with creators that makes them as fans believe they know what's best and what the creator really wants or means and unless the creator is alive to tell them they're wrong, they'll create their own narrative. When that new narrative gains traction and gets loud enough, the echo chambers begin to spawn. As for the DC Feige thing, I think the answer is in front of them. The animated movies and series have done so much better than the movies in recent years, they should just hire the people over the animated franchise and have them work with the Warner Bros studios to craft a real and stable DC movie universe.

But not any one single person is responsible for and have worked on all those projects which btw as a giant fan of most of it. Is not at the level needed to compete with marvel. Berlanti would make more sense in that case, he at least starts good but quality dips once he jumps to another show.

The problem with RoP is that it uses LoTR as a skin suit. It disregards the setting that Tolkien created and uses the popularity of the franchise to force a political/social message that is counter to the one in Tolkien's work. If one uses the name of franchise then it needs to remain true to what was established in the original and if it moves away from it needs to do so organically.
@HollowGolem2 жыл бұрын
