中学生の頃、東京から来た転校生の女の子に一目惚れした。その子は本が好きで、ある日その子が読んでる綺麗な表紙の本が目に止まった。どうにかして仲良くなりたかった当時の僕は、その本を買って読んでみた。最初はその子と話すきっかけが欲しさに読んでいたが、読み進めていくうちに、美しい情景を鮮明に浮かび上がらす繊細に描かれた文章にどんどん引き込まれていった。その本が"言の葉の庭"であり、僕が新海さんの作品に初めて出会った瞬間であった。結局その転校生の女の子とはたいして仲良くもなれず卒業を迎えてしまった。 卒業して6年くらい経った今でも当時のことを鮮明に思い出せる。素晴らしい本に出逢わせてくれてありがとう。今度の同窓会で会えるかな。

i was 14 when i fell in love with someone who was older than me by about 7 years. She was 21 at the time and way more mature than any girl ive met my age. i knew that id never have a chance with her so ive lived every moment with her to the best of my ability. i always had an amazing time when i was with her and she enjoyed my company as well. she appreciated who i was and never judged me. if i can find someone like her who can appreciate who i am no matter the flaws that i have, i can die in peace. Edit: Although its been a year I did not expect to receive this many likes on this comment. I simply wrote how I felt when listening to this song. This anime truly gives me nostalgia going back to the time when I met this girl that was about 7 years older than me. The scenario was very similar in a sense where I was minding my own business and she so happened to be there. We had small conversation at first but it later on turned into something very special. This girl has impacted most of my teenage life from when I just turned 14. I did not meet her in person, I met her online through her little sister. Let me explain how it happened because honestly if I never did what I did that day I would have never met her. I was playing Destiny (1) just chilling in the tower when I saw a low level player walking around. Of course, the hardcore gamer that I was, I was basically maxed out on level and armor. The senpai that I am, I messaged that person if they needed help going through the levels. They said sure. For a couple hours we rolled through the levels and I got to know this person bit by bit and I didnt realize they were a girl this whole time but that did not phase me as I just wanted to help out and move on with my day but I got to know this person more and more and we eventually started playing other games like Halo Reach. She talked about her big sister and how she played with her all the time and I asked if I could meet her one day and she said yeah of course. The day comes when she introduces her big sister while we were playing Halo Reach and we had so much fun playing custom games. Man those were the days, just chillin at home and playing Halo Reach custom games. I am pretty sure we were playing duck hunt or something like that. It was pretty much where one player was the sniper and the rest either drove a mongoose or a warthog and had to go through this obstacle without getting sniped or shot off. super fun! Anyway yeah so I am not sure how it happened but I started talking to the big sister and we had small conversation here and there but eventually we started becoming really good friends. It got to the point where we would play with each other every day whether it be Reach, Human Fall Flat, Rocket League, or Destiny. She was not that good at video games but she was indeed a gamer and i didnt care if she was bad because I had so much fun playing with her, laughing with her, joking around and just having fun in general. At this point you can probably tell how much I started to like this girl. She was the sunlight of my life. Any bad day I had would instantly go away the moment I went into an xbox live party with her. I was happy. So much so that I wanted to meet her in person and guess what I got the chance to do so! She lived in North Carolina while I lived in Pennsylvania and there was a solar eclipse happening in South Carolina as I hope some of you witnessed that beautiful experience. I asked my mom if it was possible that i could see her on the way to South Carolina and she said sure and i was hyped. I asked (lets call her Ann) Ann if it was okay to see her and she said yes. I told her to meet me a this Mediterranean restaurant that was near her place. The closer I got to the restaurant the more nervous i became but it was a happy nervous lol. I mean i was about to see my crush after 2 years haha. I arrived at the restaurant and patiently wait for her arrival. I was facing away from the entrance door but my mom could see if someone entered. About 20 minutes later my mom looks at the door and asked if that person that walked in was my friend. I turn around and sit there for a sec and the moment i recognized her i got up from my chair without even thinking and walked up to her and gave her the biggest hug. I still remember it to this day, my body literally moved on its own and gave her one big fat hug. We had a good time during our dinner as i sat next to her and talked to her for a bit. It was a bit awkward at first but i didnt care because she was there in person and thats literally all i can ever ask for. Before we left i asked her if i can take a picture with her and well i still have this picture saved. Its not the best quality but its proof that i met her in person so it has tons of value to me. I wish i can end it there and call it a day but you guys already know the future. As time flew by we started to grow apart. To update you I am 21 years old, the exact age when I met this girl. My friendship with her is still alive to this day but as I matured and grew up we also grew apart. She's 28 turning 29 this December and I am turning 22 next June. Our friendship started to die down a bit as I went into my 20s and of course she is now almost 30 but I still love her very much and she will always have a special place in my heart. Throughout the 7 years i had some a chances to fall in love with other girls my age but i never had any luck with them lol. I know i said that i never told Ann how i felt but i actually did tell her how much i appreciated her and how she made my world a much better place. thanked her for being patient with me when i got mad at the game and for listening to me whenever i was upset about something. I told her i could write a book about how awesome she is and i mean you could say that this comment is like a short story in a sense lol. Overall you can obviously tell how grateful i am to her so i want to say that if you ever find someone like her who stays by your side through everything you best cherish that moment because it may not last forever but who knows maybe it will because you recognized it early and asked her out and eventually marry her which is best case scenario but if not and youre like me you learn from this and move on and the next opportunity you get you dont waste a second to catch it :) thank you guys for listening to my story. And of course, i will be around answering questions and such so feel free to ask me anything! P.S Ann if by the off chance you ever see this, just know that i love ya bunches and will carry your heart with mine throughout the rest of my lifetime. thank you for being part of my life!
