I grew up in its neighbouring area Causeway Bay, Paterson Street, I had only been to the Tiger Balm Garden on once and it was years later when I was living in Happy Valley. But the cone shaped low rental estates Lau Tuk Chung gave me a lot of childhood memories as I went there often. Built in 1976, it was my cousin's home. The govt did random drawing for the low income application and my cousin got it. Each floor had some many apartments surrounding the main core, that's the cone which is actually the atrium from top to the bottom like Time Square Mall. The apartment is very small without rooms, u just need to use panels to make bedrooms. U can imagine inside is pretty packed for a family to live in under 200sq ft. But who knows, look at today low income people could end up living in the street, those shitty locations like Yau Ma Ti , Kowloon Bay are considered as luxury, what if Lai Tuk Chung was redeveloped, I'm sure it would become super luxury, right?
I was there in the 1950s in the tiger Balm garden mansion. There were other things u didnt mention. They have a big boat made of rock that hang out of the garden in the hill. They also have a maze that when u enter u cant find your way out. The whole area was packed with many big statues.
Good video and good story, I still remember the Tiger Balm Garden from the early 60's. I got frighten from the monkey, pig and other statues. So good to go down memory lane. Thanks I enjoyed it.
