Lots of fun to watch you dive into this. It is indeed a brain bender. I love the energy and bringing some of the concepts of X-Stream out in a very concise way. I still did not know where the INIT patch was, BUT NOW I Do! ;^) It was inspiring to see you stack multiple X-Streams, wow. A lot of times I get sucked into a sound and sort of blinds the periphery so watching you approach it in a different way as a sound designer is eye opening. Again, fun and inspiring! Joyfully yours!

Glad it was free. Because the installation and activation process was so complicated it discouraged me from ever spending any money on a Steinberg product ever. Appalling complex and...on my computer...deleted, with Steinberg product never to be considered for purchase in the future.

Nice work - when you import your own sample; how do you bypass all effects in the X-Stream Spectral Synthesizer to compare and build from there etc?

Init X-stream preset = initialise..... Just replace the sample.

Thanks, Chris..great video. 👍 I bought their Padshop Pro back in the day and later upgraded to Padshop 2..but X-Stream is like they're giving away the most part of Padshop for free..unbelievable! I've seen it mentioned here that this is a bit of a system hog, but I guess that's relative to your system specs and how you intend using this. If you're sitting it in a mix along with other 3rd party vsts and FXs, then yeah, I can see how it could very quickly become a bit of a load to work with. But, as I see it, I think this really comes into it's own when you use it alone for sound design purposes to make your own samples and pads. Spent all day noodling with this little beauty and really didn't want to step away from it.. Guess what I've got planned for tomorrow? 😁👍

Yep, it's quite astonishing that this is free. I think it calls itself a 'Spectral' Synth rather than one using granular synthesis? Will extended exposure to the presets reveal them to be sprinkled with subliminal messages such as 'Buy Cubase, Nuendo cures baldness, Steinberg makes you a better lover'

The problem with this synth is that is uses HALion, which is a resources hog, much worse than Omnisphere.Look at your load indicator, and it’s only one track,one sample with no effects. I like your enthusiasm though, it’s so infectious.

I was so annoyed with this download. Apart from it requiring HALion, it installed a download manager, activation manager, and license manager all independently… what the heck?!? Why all separate apps when other companies handle all this in one? It makes me want to uninstall it.

HALion 7 moves faster than HALion 3 and it's also VST 3 and yes: this kind of sampling consumes too much which is annoying. You shouldn't buy the most powerful computer to make a song from 30 channels, Synapse Audio and u-he managed to make wonderful synthesizers with low pc, so it is possible without pigs.

Played with it earlier, but after watching Chris's video I realise there is way more to XStream than first glance, thank you Chris and Steinberg, cant believe this is free!! ps I just loaded multiple samples by dragging and dropping them, without opening a new instance of XStream, seems to work OK.

I haven't attempted it yet but it should be possible to use JS MIDI Polyphony in Reaper to split incoming MIDI pitch and trigger multiple instances of XStream. That should mean a polyphonic version!

Dang, downloaded it to follow along, and this is a fun tool. I've been using Concept 2 for mangling my drones, pads, and textures, but I'm going to have to make space for X-Stream, as the patch I made just now sounds great. Lots of movement, and all those layers/timbres! Shame that the GUI can't be resized though. Other than that 🔥And free! Great job on the demo, friend! 👏

Insane that this is free, quality plugin. Tip for polyphony (only not realtime) just change your midi channel for each midi note and then in Halion have one instance of X-stream for each used channel.

It took me WAY too long to realize that the reason I wasn't seeing an X-STREAM plugin in the plugins list, no matter what I did. It's because X-STREAM is a module for Halion Sonic 7. Also, it only likes .WAV and not MP3. For anyone who missed that.

Not standalone. You have to use either Halion 7 or Halion Sonic 7. The latter is the free version. As you see in the video, it's really good!

Does this require an internet connection to run (after being downloaded)? I'm seriously considering disconnecting my audio workstation from the net, but that will mean losing the use of a lot of my plugins (like all my Cherry Audio stuff).

using the spectral oscillator spectral oscillator/zone of course..... X-Stream seems more a gateway to the spectral oscillator.... didn't try it yet.... perhaps some scripting is involved... must download first HALion 7.1....
