Anyone not familiar with the band should really check them out. They are absolutely fantastic. Often considered a punk band, I think they are so much more than that. They blend so many styles to form their own style. Punk, rockabilly, outlaw country, blues, rock and more...you get it all with X. They are amazing and will be missed when they stop.

One of my favorite music stories: My buddy Steve owned a club in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis in the late 1970s-early 1980s. All the emerging punk and new wave bands played there, including X. Their 1980 gig at the venue fell on the last Saturday of May, the day before the Indianapolis 500. There was not a hotel room available for 25 miles in any direction. John, Exene, DJ, and Billy had no idea that was the case and did not book rooms in advance. They called Steve frantically at 3 AM Saturday morning, and he invited them to stay at his apartment. Exene got the couch, the guys slept on the floor--and they still just destroyed onstage that night.

After listening to X since middle school (I'm in my 50s now) I was finally able to meet John at Rough Trade NYC when he was promoting his book. He played a few songs, mostly by audience request, then sat down to sign some books. When it was my turn, he asked me to whom I wanted him to make it out, I was barely able to spit out the initials I use, "JD". He chuckled and said, "Cool, so from JD to JD." The weird sorta laugh sorta yes sorta I don't know what sound I made still haunts me to this day. He just smiled.

When Ebay was pretty new, someone from Slash was auctioning off a lot of production art from their albums/cds. The label was probably just dumping that type of thing and someone there took it all. I won some photos from that LA/Wild Gift CD and, I think, the inner sleeve artwork from the Knitters album. Back when Ebay was really cool.
