Vader definitely wants the regular TIE/D, free evades and the K-turn will make him very slippery. Also, the TIE Defender Elite card is not worth it, it should honestly be -3 points, as it takes away the two things that make the TIE Defender good. And in order to get the benefits of the card (the double tap), you have to equip a cannon (not jamming beam) and fire-control system.

The Skystrike Academy is from Star Wars Rebels, it is where they help Wedge defect to the rebels. Truly a tragedy because I'd like to see Wedge flying a tie defender for the Empire!

The defender is so beautiful. I kind of wish they made the Interceptors with different ace paintings, but I get why they didn’t.. The defender was released for 2.0 before so this is not the first for 2.0. Also the yellow on the Defender is for Vult Skerris’ Tie Defender Elite

The yellow on the TIE Defender is from Rebels, like the rest of the artistic inspiration from this pack. IIRC, it was the Ace that Hera fought in the Rebel attack on Lothal that was flying a yellow-marked TIE/D

Vader is a Defender! Finally. Definitely going to have some fun with this option. Might have to run a local rule and allow a Vader TIE-D and Vader TIE-Advanced combo just to see what kind of Vader mayhem will result.

Out of the three squadron packs I thought the Skystrike Academy painted miniatures were the worst. They simply applied a slap dash amount of red to the interceptors and yellow (of all colors) to the defender. If not for the cards I would have avoided this expansion entirely.

Just ordered this and the Hotshots and Aces... I fell into the rabbit hole, no way out >< (my first was a core pack, a decimator and a B-wing, but wanna focus empire while playing small scenarios casually at the same time thus the need for a small rebel fleet :P)

It concerns me that these models maybe back stock merch aquired by AMG, repainted and jazzed up with hero pilots to sell. Likewise I suspect the obscure squid ship presented at the mini extravaganza , which was cool I guess, did not make the impact that a Mando Razorcrest would have done otherwise, which might be subject to a licensing issue with Disney.

Vader shouldnt be in an elite, he needs the evade token because he cant use force for defense and he's 115points, if he starts taking damage early you've lost. Elite is only good on Ryad because she keeps her white k turns at any speed and its only good if you dont pair her with another defender because its standardized (which should honestly be considered as a negative points upgrade)

The Defender Elite looks fun for casual play. Darth Vader, Rexler Brath, Elite + weapon upgrades, pure carnage and hilarity. For competitive play? No way. Elite's overall a downgrade. It puts the Defender in the same general class of other factions' offensive super-fighters like the E-Wing or TIE Silencer, but with a much bigger price tag. The Rebels can have an E-Wing with Proton Torps (giving them double-modded 4 red dice shots with pre-locking with the ship ability), plus an R4 droid to surpass the Defender Elite's dial, for 63 points. That's enough firepower to match the Elite's double-tap at a cost where you can field 3 of them and still have points for other upgrades (like FCS on all 3 to improve action economy). Triple torp E-Wings isn't even a meta squad! IMHO the Defender at 68 points is probably a bit overcosted, but for good reasons. One: it pays a feels-bad-tax for being so hard to hurt. Two: to keep it over the three-per-list threshold so you can't have s triple Defender points fortress squad, again because it's so hard to hurt to even half points. Both of those reasons vanish when you take the Elite config, so even if the pros and cons of the card are equal, the Elite could still be a negative cost and still be fairly priced.

I love the paint work on these. I have been trying to craft some lists already but unfortunately you can only get two defenders in a list. But the interceptors can be made into a swam list. I wish that the defenders where costed a little cheaper.

To be honest they already have one, and I don't think that the game needs more squadron packs. If anything, they should release the V-19 Torrent as a standalone pack. More of these packs means more of these cheesy cards (like hopeful and the scum and empire counterparts), which is not a good thing. It's the reason many people favor hyperspace instead of extended.

Any one notice that the painting went downhill from 1.0 to 2.0. Comparing I can see they are missing the washes. Black lining is missing. Also the blue looks way cheaper to me than the original gray + dark wash.

I really dislike Skerris' ability. If it allowed action at start of engagement, it might be worthwhile, but as it is, I only see it being beneficial against other inititive 5s if you are moving and shooting first.

These are almost impossible to get a hold of. (In UK) I had a preorder in for weeks and I still got a message a day after realise saying they can’t fulfil the order due to stock. Hoping moving from FFG to AMG improves the distribution moving forwards

Oh yes. The love of her life, Thane Kyrell, is an X-wing pilot, so every time she blows up a Rebel ship, she thinks "I could have just killed my beloved Thane." Hence the stress token. Her focus token when a friendly is destroyed is due to her determination to protect the lives of her friends, which we see in the novel. Very thematic ability, and I am very pleased with it.

Agreed, most of the pilots and cards (especially the talents) are quite lackluster. It's even sadder for me considering I only play Imperial.
