When Logan (Hugh Jackman) is wounded by the police, Pyro (Aaron Stanford) decides to retaliate.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a failed assassination attempt occurs on the President's (Cotter Smith) life by the teleporting mutant Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), it's Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and his School for Gifted Youngsters who are targeted for the crime. While Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) and Storm (Halle Berry) try and locate the assassin, Cyclops (James Marsden) and Xavier (also known as 'Professor X') seek answers from their old foe Magneto (Ian McKellan) in his glass cell...Little do they know they're walking into a trap set by the villainous William Stryker (Brian Cox), a mysterious governmental figure that figures into Wolverine's (Hugh Jackman) secretive past, along with information about the X-Men's operation, supplied by Magneto through a mind-controlling agent. @@seanbrower6738 Well for one he was not retracting claws. He was raising them over his head. Not necessarily a sign of compromise. As well assuming a pipe bomb is really over the top. That is like 1 in a million odds especially in rural Bostan. Also he would need to hands to light a pipe bomb. If he had put both hands into his pockets and they both came out holding something then he probably would have been shot. Shooting an adult with knives who won't list to police or drop the knives makes sense. Shooting a young kid who just saw someone get shot and holding a lighter does not. If they shot Pyro before he showed off his mutant powers then it would have been just shooting a kid with a lighter. The officer's would likely be under a lot of scrutiny and could potentially lose their jobs or be charged.

Dude, they literally responded to a phone call of a frightened person saying there were strange people in their house, so they were responding to a presumed highly dangerous situation. They acted accordingly. Logan should have sheathed his claws at the slow pace he's able to sheath them at, instead he sheathed them in a quick action, which you should never do around a police officer in a highly stressful situation.

Most unrealistic part of this scene is that the cops didn’t just start mag-dumping the second the first one shot Logan. There was a recent case of cops unloading into a house because they saw the resident lawfully carrying her own gun (thinking there were potential intruders at the door; unsurprisingly, the cops didn’t announce themselves as police) through the window. They each reloaded about four times in that span without moving to take cover or checking to see if they’d successfully shot the woman. She’s still alive, luckily, but yeah. They wouldn’t have even waited for Pyro to pull out the lighter or Logan to try to explain himself.

If realism is a goal desired to be obtained, I think what occurs here with Pyro attacking the cops, should be discussed when the X-Men safely regroup in the forest. Storm and co. should privately ask Logan what exactly happened at Bobby Drake's house, and Logan will reveal that Pyro murdered police officers. They'll talk about how to handle the situation - Everyone will immediately agree to not blame Pyro for his murderous behaviour - He was in a stressful life or death situation, where the police clearly couldn't be relied upon to do their jobs properly and fairly. They'll decide that Logan will privately talk to Pyro, where he'll confirm that no one blames him for his actions - Pyro himself, will be very defensive. Logan will then tell him there's counselling available at The Xavier Institute if he needs to process what happened, but Pyro will be noticeably and strangely, almost completely apathetic. Later on in the forest sequence, Iceman and Rogue will ask him about what Logan said to him, curious to see how the adult staff will deal with the situation. They'll be noticeably disturbed and unsettled by Pyro's behaviour, but be supportive. Pyro will again be defensive, adamantly defending his actions, knowing that they suspect he'll be held accountable for his murderous behaviour - He'll say that the cops could've started firing at all of them when Logan woke up and just started moving a little, as they were trigger-happy. "It was them or us" in his view. They'll ask concerned, if he's "okay" and he'll say he's "fine".
