X3: Albion Prelude Getting Started Guide (Part 2)

This game would be so much more fun, and would have a much bigger audience if they had actually thought to put a decent set of detailed tutorials into the game so that videos like these wouldn't be needed just to get started. For any other game this sort of vid would be for advanced stuff, not the basics. What were they thinking? Even with this guide I'm confused when I actually get into the game. I'm thinking I might just pick humble merchant (because I don't care for the story of the X universe, I've missed 3 games + expansions of it, so I'll live) and just fumble around till I've got the controls and then just do stuff and see what happens. It feels like the best way. But godsakes, fancy forcing players to do that.

I've spent hundreds of hours playing the X games all the way from X-Tension to X3 TC inclusive, only just recently started playing Albion Prelude, so it's interesting to see your starting approach. Personally I kept the Mercury and traded in E-Cells in the sectors around Argon Prime, - The Wall, The Hole, Antigone Memorial and Power Circle, must have made around 200,000 credits before the sectors above were flooded with E-Cells, with no more good deals to be made.

This has to be one of the biggest single player games ever.Personally I like it better than EVE ya its that big.Best thing is if you loose your fleet you can just reload a save.In EVE you can loose everything it took a month to get. Love this game played it since reunion....AP is the best to date forget x3 rebirth and just get AP.The amount of depth and freedom in this game is mind blowing. In TC I actually conquered most of the Xenon sectors and replaced their stations with my own.It took months of playing to get a empire wealthy enough to be able to spam massive fleets.Thanks for all your videos on this awesome game!

First order of duty, is to go to Ore Belt Go north of the North Gate.... dock at the Pirate Base, and buy a cargo life support unit.

Yeah, it's been there since X3:Reunion. However, sometimes the local military will destroy it early in the game. Which makes a new one spawn else where, but since it's random you have no idea where the new one is at. Life Support Upgrade only costs around 2K, so should be able to buy it before it gets destroyed.

Heh! It's among the keyboard/mouse settings in-game. When enabled, when you press the key you bind to it, your ship automatically fires at the "leading" boresight (that accurately guides your aiming to lead a targeted enemy ship as it flies) instead of straight ahead or straight at the targeting reticle (or mouse cursor). It basically means you can target an enemy ship, fly within range, and hold down the boresight fire key until it's dead/sufficiently injured, w/out really aiming yourself :)

Simply amazing, But I've been in through playing as a true merchant, buying and selling for resources in each and every system and stations. the only problem that I'll have to overcome is trying to unlock the stock exchange in Argon Prime, which is really annoying in some ways, and will be frickin' tedious for the time being. This is a great game, and the one I'm looking, been in this game for 12 hours now. and it's really frickin awesome. nuff said. :D

Thanks :) Maybe the current series I'm doing (X3: Albion Prelude w/X Rebalanced Mod installed) will offer further inspiration to play. It's more of a let's play than this series was (though as maskedhero666 points out, this series turned fairly quickly into a let's play of sorts as well). You should give X3: Terran Conflict and/or X3: Albion Prelude a try, though. They're *really* fun games.

Yeah, you probably have a good point there. I did abandon the pretense of "Making a Guide(tm)!" in the latest series, which I flat-out admit is a let's play, though early on in *this* series I did make it a point to demonstrate at least *something* new in each episode. Harder stuff to demonstrate: 1) stuff I've not (successfully) done yet myself, 2) stuff that requires specific setups to demonstrate, since just the setup alone could take a long time even w/cheats. Still, thanks for the input.

I'd recommend just playing AP. The older ones are only really good for their story at this point, and while you may want to dip into that eventually they're pretty unfriendly to new players. AP has the best gameplay of the series IMO.

I never tried Humble Merchant, went straight to the Terran Character. But I've made some dough 400 Million with a couple of Capital Ships, but they tend to be buggy, I took Xenon Sector between Thynn's Abyss and Black Hole Sun and Capital ships sometimes wont follow orders and just sit there getting shot at by Xenon Q's trying to reclaim the Sector you took.

One thing you keep doing is saying is "Its Useful" but not saying why. It would have been nice if you said Jumpdrive is useful because... or bioscanner you can do so and so. Instead of just saying its "Useful".

New to X3. Just bought Albion Prelude and started wondering why I wasted my money on such a confusing new-player-unfriendly game. I didn't complain and I'm still not complaining, since I was the one who decided to spend the money. But come on, that's ****ing hilarious that I turn to KZbin for help only to find a starter guide, in which even the commentator gets annoyed and exhales loudly...

Hey, William, I've asked this before, but I forgot the answer you gave and i deleted my inbox -_-, but when I start a new game, I only get the human type starts, not the the other ones. I've did some research on the wikis and I found this: "Five are available when the game is first installed, and the others are unlocked as the player meets various prerequisites." Do you know what the objectives are to get the other scenarios? Cheers.

I'm glad to see someone else a solid hour into a game and still cursing "I can't make any money! Can I take this mission? Nope...This one? Nope...nope...nope..." lol Even Will is tempted to cheat in money he says, but I feel wrong even starting with a good ship, let alone two ships. ='( Such a brutal beginning to a game

wait, you can run seta while steering? every time I do any movement it cancels out

Yeah, you just have to steer with the mouse and do it rather slowly. It does work though.

hi, quick question if anyone maybe know:i played albion alot and im kindof veteran in x series but one thing is bothering me, in savage split and bancrupt assasain scenarios i just got to capital ships and tons of credits but at one point i stoped geting missions no war no trade nothing no marks on factorys and ships???i tried to start a new scenarios all of them lol and still nothing except flyschool lightball nothing.I also tryed to reinstall the game but nothing.did i maybe disabled missions?

That's really weird; almost sounds like some (all?) of the game's scripts quit running entirely. This is one of those things I'd check the Egosoft forums about.

Oh and will if you use a joystick like i do and you have fight software mk1 and 2 the computer will automatically aim at the enemy ships

Its pretty silly but you have to run into them with your ship. I don't think this game has the brains to use tractor beams. Btw, you can make lots more money by keeping the mercury and selling the Discoverer and buying ore in Ore-belt and selling in argon prime for around 300-400% profit.

no need but thanks, when i patched the game to 2.50 i used the wrong crack form earlier version lol it let me play but i lost missions. stupid mistake, with 2.50 crack it runs normal now and im back in action.thanks for reply :)

try with lunar flight and kerbal space program (very early develope)

It's always completely random -- every game is different. If you keep exploring, you'll eventually start finding missions and salesmen. Keep at it!

fucking game , I just died in my 3rd play trough thinking there was some hope for this game , Got away with my discoverer , and oh , while on a mission I got shot out by a bandit , fuck this game . Takes hours to do something , then you get killed. Fuck this shit.

This is a guide? Dude, it's a lets play. I learnt very little from your videos, other than some tricks. You seem nice and your videos are decent but I think showing basics, would be nice. I am quite sure people want to make tactical decisions for themselves, but need guidance in how to navigate the universe, ships and the lore.

Yeah. that's something i hate about this game. So many expansions yet they still haven't fixed the primitive flight physics and thruster effects and sounds are really lame.
