Regarding the efficiency of trade ships vs mining ships in the early game, there's a bit more to it than merely comparing the relative amounts of profitsss they make. Don't forget that traders actively supply factories with the raw materials they need in order to produce their goods. Some of these goods might just be absolutely critical for your next ships to be built, and the shipyard will just eat your money and sit idle without these shipments (Engine parts, anyone?).

My findings, 2 cargo drones completely empties your hold in one trip, no need for more. Absolutely do not watch your large miners, they tend to warp off without their drones recalled, out of sector it just simulates the drones getting out and about and I stopped loosing drones after that. These things also dock incredibly slow if you try to watch them. Also, you can see on the buy ships screen how many docks it has for small and medium ships and there is a seperate catagory for ship storage for small and medium. Ship storage is when the docking Bay opens up and swallow your ship and gets put in storage and no longer blocks the drones going in and out. That's how carriers can carry so many fighters.

For example at 17:39 you can see in the middle box 2 Small Ship docks and 40 small ship capacity. On the other hand you can't dock medium ships there so if you ever want to use a seller when the command starts working, it has to be a small ship unless they can use cargo drones in the future.

Yeah, that's understandable. There's so much in this game they just don't explain. Hopefully more of the features and commands get fleshed out with each patch to the point that we can play without needed to poor over guides and wikis.

Tip: If Available, the Sentinel versions have more capacity than the Vanguard.

Yes Sentinel versions typically have more armor and more storage capacity but are slower and less manouverable. They're sold at the alternate factions like ANT (Antigone republic) Warf/Shipyards for Argon or MIN (Ministry of Finance) for Teladi. The Holy Order sell the Paranid Sentinel versions which make their ships generally slower but also harder to kill!

The number and type of docks and the amount of ships it can hold can be seen in the bottom middle section in the shipyard/warf

Not sure if you've found out already, but if you have a ship docked on one of the landing pads and the drones need to launch or land the landing pad will put the ship into internal storage.

Just one thing to keep in mind, the bigger ships have about a 10 second charge up time to enter travel mode, and their acceleration speeds are really really low, so while their top speed is much higher, overall their speeds might be about the same if not slower than Medium sized ships

Does anyone know whether the mineable resources in the game can be fully depleted or do they respawn?

Large miners make no sense, because: 1. Often stations don't but enough raw resources and they have to go around half the universe to sell, 2. They take five years to dock into a single gate. 3. They can carry more cargo, but the cost of credits per cargo unit is much higher than meds, 4.they are often away from gates, which makes it harder to defend them and harder for them to escape if attacked. Sick to medium, they are perfectly fine, cheap, expendable and efficient.

The reason why you couldn't buy the medium combat ships at the first warf was because it was the warf of the Ministry of Finance, not of the Teladi Company. Unlike with the Paranid factions (and to a lesser degree the Argon factions), the two Teladi factions barely differ in color, so they are really hard to tell apart from the sector border color. But you can tell from the MIN or TEL at the beginning of the station's name. Also it seems that between the two factions of a species one names their ships sentinel and the other vanguard. I wonder how long it'll take someone to make a mod that changes the faction colours of the Ministry of Finane and Antigone Republic, so they are easier to distinguish.

With update 3.2, they made it so that captains that do not have the star rating to do a certain order, no longer can be assigned that order. So if that option is not showing in the list, your captain is most likely missing the star requirement to do it.

Oh, right. That's a bit annoying. I wish they'd just greyed them out like some other commands rather than them not showing at all. I'm pretty sure I have captains that can run the command, but it's just gone for all my ships now.

Noob question here and completely irrelevant to this video, but how did you get the background of your empire logo to be transparent?

I saved it as a .PNG Assuming you've got an image with a transparent background a .PNG will retain the transparency. If you've got an image without a transparent background you can use a free program like Paint.net to cut the background out using the magic wand tool or something. Then save as a .PNG Hope this helps :)

Could you build a storage station where your miners drop of there cargo and then have traders (or mining ships) assigned to the station. Then they could look at the market and take out the wares from your warehouse and sell it.? But i am not certain if that would work.

The only way I can think of to get that working is using the 'mine for' and 'trade for' commands, but they don't seem to work yet.

No you cant because contrary to miners, freighters have no solid storage, only container, so you have to transform the ore/ice/silicon to make a product freighters can move (trade)

just my thoughts: M Ships are agile in the field and faster if they are attacked (never lost one of my paranid Miners) and they can dock on every Station out there. now they cost less and have smaller Cargo, but many times the Station only have small buyorders out so M ships are better too they can support one Station and go back to work while the Station produces the better products. the large ship will be a mess in a miningfield, a bigger target for a raid, he cant rum fast enugh (no charged Speed in Combat) and they only can dock and trade if they have Cargo drones or there is a big dock. and manny times i see my l ship flying to another Station cause the one isn´t buying all resources. its the same with big trading ships. many times they fly around with only 5% of ist cargospace cause they cant buy more of the material on a Station or the other one dont buy as much they can trade. im just going with many m ships and Right now with some s scout ships for trading cause they are so damn fast.

Yes, but the ships can still be much faster, much faster! Some can reach more than 16,000 m/s, modifying them in the Workbench for ship Mods, which sits on the dock of Pier/shipyard/equipment, in the building that has the dealer. There you can do magic ; )

While ships up to L-siz0e can use the Highways, XL-size ships cant use them. Thats why their travel speed is higher than the travel speed of L-size Ships

No, bigger ships are not fastest - Paranid ships are. Try Pegasus Vanguard - 8633 m/s travel speed - highways are useless...

@@lawrenceloschiavo5330 8875 m/s actually (ALI shipyard has faster engines) 52 s. to accel to that speed, but only 8 s. when using counter-thrust (while moving at max travel speed - turn assist off, put Your nose in direction of a turn, turn assist on). if You are used to that You need to accelerate this 52 s. only once = at the start of Your trip. There is also one more reason in most cases your destination point in system is some distance away from highway. So You have to accelerate as normal in travel mode anyway - after leaving it. Using counter-thrust is much faster. Edit: I've checked after mods and simple Basic-Level engine and mass mod i brought this value to 12687 m/s. I wonder what top-tier mod level can do.
