I know this was recorded a while ago, but if you're wondering why you only found purples is because Egosoft, in all their wisdom, decided that there should be a massive cooldown on all non purples. There are mods to make crystal hunting worth it, but in vanilla it isn't really worth it

Nice start to a awesome role playing series. I really love this game. I wish I could find someone doing a series with the Paranid warrior start with all of the new expansions. I guess I'll have to jump on that start and play it for a while. Just for myself though. I feel really awkward putting my play out there for every person on the planet to tell me how I did something wrong, or that I'm just "stupid" for doing it like that, lol. Anyhow, I am looking forward to watching you series through to the end. Happy travels. :)

@@SakaGames I had a hunch already. I have not played X4 for a while now. Next to space games I am a huge JRPG fan, and I was playing the Falcom Trails series non-stop (Together with the Atelier series from Gust). But now the new X4 DLC is on the horizon, I am preparing myself for a brand new run. Yeah - There goes free time again, but at least I used to it, because I started the X-series with X - Beyond The Frontier many years ago. So......... ;-).

I'm looking forward to watching this to learn a little more about x4 because I get lost on what or how the best way to progress after mining up to some good amount of creds. Curious how is combat in 6.0?

Haven’t got to the new bombard features yet, or attacked a station. I do notice my ships fly in closer formation, so their bubble of safety is smaller for sure

IMO the base game starter ship should have been the Callisto (but beef the turning rate by 50% to somewhere in the M class military ships, because as it is, the turn rate is bad), and that gels with the starting monologue. The Elite is a terrible fighter having only one gun, and a terrible scout (scouts have one gun for self defence, not for getting into fights) because it is REAL slow, it is a cheap ship frame, but in the S class, most of the cost is any Mk2 or Mk3 thing you put on it, not the frame, and it is a terrible hauler because it only has 150 units of cargo space. A Callisto upgraded has a slow but sufficient turn speed (the Elite has the second best to the Split Asp for turning speed), two guns, is slower than the Elite by a small amount, but has 1000 units of cargo space, and with two guns you can decide to use one gun and a missile launcher or two guns to take into battle, so it can be a Jack of All Trades, Master of None. The Teladi have scout class military ships (therefore fast and relatively manoeverable too) with 1000 units of space, or thereabouts, the Paranid S class trader has two guns and decent speed, and even more that for the Split S trader. The Elite is just a Zerg Rush ship with a single gun, making cost per gun fielded bad, so you are spending a lot of lives. The Elite makes a good Police ship, though, it isn't meant to fight, but it "can" and it may survive while actual combat ships get there due to being very manoeverable, but it doesn't make a starter ship except you desperately want to get OUT of that ship to ANYTHING better, and they all are, though you may want a different ship based on whhat you want to do. If they made the Callisto 50% more manoeverable and the general starter ship, it is a "do anything" with its cargo space, turning and two guns. If you want faster and more space, get Paranid or Split (Paranid ~1600 split, IIRC, ~1200 cargo, but they are not as fun to fly in a fight, so will generally want to run away, which they have speed for). They could make a better fighter of it by adding a fixed function (therefore no new modelling, just "a place missiles get spawned at" defined for the ship) missile launcher. It isn't worth a full gun, because the ship defines what missile you get, and you don't replace it, so it ups the Elite but not by as much as a full gun and also without redoing the model. If they added to the Nova to make it 5-10% more manoeverable, it would be enough ahead of its competitors that the vastly faster speed of a paranid perseus or the two shields of the Falcon are a trade off, and it would explain WHY the thrusters are moving while the falcon just has vectoring thrusters. Of course, you could add either 10% more speed or a fixed function missile launcher, making an Argon "peculiarity" of having a fixed function missile on their S class Military ships and why they aren't that much faster than the much more heavily armed and capacious Teladi S class military and a WHOLE lot slower than the other races' fighters. After all, the work of a "fixed function missile launcher" has already been done, potentially. I would also lighten Teladi ships by 10-20% and reduce the price of the Teladi engines by 20% while their engines are 10% weaker in the M class so if you were on a budget, you would get more bang for your buck, or at least equal to Argon bang for the buck (bigger but slower ships, not as painfully slow as currently) in the M class. That keeps straight teladi ships around the same speed/cargo or slightly better, between the Argon and Paranid (the latter should not have the best price and speed per cargo unit, but it does), but it DOES make the teladi M trader a cheap option for cheaping out on. However, if they kept the Elite as the basegame starter ship, it would demonstrate how powerful and useful missiles are, whereas you can't replace your single gun point with a missile point, it runs out and costs you to fire, so if it had a fixed tracker missile launcher for the basegame starter ship, you would use it from salvage and USE missiles from the get-go, so it doesn't HAVE to change to a Callisto, I just think that the latter is a better "I don't know WHAT I want to do" ship but the turning rate is too low for gunfights to be any fun at all as it is. I would also change the gunboats, because they lose out badly compared to corvettes, a turret turns faster but is a WHOLE lot less than a Mk1 gun. I would add one fixed function missile launcher in the nose of both gunboats (Teladi and Argon) and add another to the Minotaur from Argon, because it is slower, carries less and is not as well shielded as the Peregrine. However, if gunboats are going to remain "the cheap alternative to a corvette that is just plain worse", then just add to the Minotaur a fixed function launcher to make up for being by far the worst gunboat. It fits the idea that "Argon fit a fixed function to save costs and ease production", and now you can also add that if you see an Elite Sentinel (as an example), you are also going to see lots of torpedoes, so do NOT send capital ships to engage. And so on. The Frigates are "choose the Gorgon" and nothing else, though the Cobra is an expensive but better ship. Sucks for Osprey and Cerebus, but if the Osprey is a defensive only arm, then it makes sense and with Ion Canons they can board without any other ship class with them. I would make the Teladi Muon Canon bounce a heck of a lot less often, I would make Ion Canons a bit cheaper, and if AI can't work it, and humans can't make use of the extra range of it, the mass drivers should be made a lot cheaper (or both AI upgrades to use it correctly AND to allow a couple of degrees of turning for humans to use so it can USE the 12+km range). Burst lasers are fine, but Mk1 are underpowered and you can make an argument that Mk2 are overpowered, but since it is ONLY OP for capital ship components, not for S/M class targets or the main hull of an L/XL ship, you CAN say that is paid for by being so niche. Personally, I'd up the base damage of the Mk1 burst laser and slightly increase the heat gain of the Mk2. Beam lasers I'd make CHEAP. Like half its current price, or less. I'd make it something you, after you unlock military licenses, use on traders or anything because it isn't for combat, really. A four-up of beams hit fighters more often than flak does, but anything bigger and/or slower (M class and up, for example), its damage really doesn't keep up to a Flak canon. So LESS than half the price of Flaks and I'd make it cheaper than pulse lasers (if only because I'd want more single beams than lots of bullets to track for CPU savings). Making beams cheapest but locked behind a rank wall but least effective OOS or even IS balances them out well, I feel. You might not put them on as a singleton, but you might put them as a pack targeting the same ship, and use Flak for singleton mounts for its single turret power output. L turret beams and M beam main weapons really don't do enough damage, but at least M class main weapons track at the turning rate of the ship. I would up its range and rotation speed OR make it REAL cheap for turreted L class, or make it do more damage AND cheaper for main weapons. Can't decide, but it doesn't turn fast enough to hit small fighters and doesn't do enough damage (or prevent enough shield regen) for larger targets, and costs FAR too much for its lackluster performance both in system and out. Thermal disintegrators don't cut it against fighters, since they don't track other than head-on shots, but they are, strangely, both cheaper than pulse lasers AND do more damage, some of which is DoT and bleeds through shields. I'd increase the cost to above pulse lasers and increase either the speed of projectiles or make it better turning for the gun. Just even out its use cases. This leaves the pulse as "I am not sure what to put in", it does decent damage, tracks fast enough, has enough range, runs cool and is cheap, and the plasma as the anti-big ship, running hot but does large damage and is fairly cheap too, and "race weapons" having use cases that vary from cheap to bullet spread to heat, to price as to why you want to fit them instead.

Sure, essentially for miners without skill to do smart auto mine, look for sectors with factories that use ore or silicon. Once you find an ore or silicon refinery, drop a resource probe in the sector and see if that resource is in that same sector as the factory. That way, sector auto mine can stay in one place and you won’t have to set up repeat orders to mine then move then sell then back to mining again.

Hey there it's too bad crystals weren't more useful other than selling.... Like certain crystals are good for powering weapons.. or boosting them up some for engines or Shields.. a stronger hull.. etc... Wish I knew how to mod this game would be so much better even with all the mods that are out there... (And I have about a dozen of them) and I feel it needs at least a dozen more.…but I am really shocked that no one has made a mod to change how the boost works by depleting gear ships Shields is so retarded 🤬 and freaking frustrating! Shields and Hull are weak as it is .. and that is why for the most part I leave my ships stationary guarding a gate or station.... But that's my not so humble two cents 🙄🤗😁

Crystals are now more rare, which is a pity, it should be possible to get crystals from mining if they cut the frequency of them appearing, because early game it was almost 100% blank staring at the screen looking for a flash, but later game 100% NOT that because it was fairly boring to do. Making crystals more rare cut it to not being a start of "go crystal hunting", but they are so rare they really aren't used at all. Selling is all they were or are good for, but it is far too rare and only you can get them. If YOU mining brought up any crystals when the asteroid went boom, then mining would be a more useful start, if crystals were rare but easier to spot, then you could pick them up by exploring. Also re: shields, remember that it used to be that fighters got 8 guns, Couldn't USE them, there wasn't anywhere near the puff to do it, but that meant you had a WILDLY different loadout IS and OOS, because OOS all guns fired all the time and IS that loadout meant you were not shooting most of the time. But also remember that you went from 3MJ of shielding in a scout with 3x1MJ sheilds, to 15MJ of shielding in an interceptor/light fighter, to 75MJ of shields in a dedicated fighter. Now you go from 1 to 2 shields in a scout or fighter, the same shields in either. Balancing a game that has 3MJ shields and 75MJ shields in the same fight is not possible, even M4s should NEVER be used in a fight, but the fighters had 8 guns instead of the 2 they have now. That is a LOT easier to balance now than before, and you can mix up light fighters with heavy fighters and scouts and rationally have a choice, instead of a Hobson's Choice of "Nova or death". IMO there should be more difference between shields in the M class (increasing regen rate but increasing the delay), and either the S class have a bigger difference (either increasing the difference in max shielding or decreasing the delay, personally I'd go the former, a Split is "Zoom and Boom" whilst the Teladi are "Sit still and wear the opponent out", currently the speed of regen delay makes a Split S shield the best S shield, and you don't get enough for the 12 second delay for the Teladi S shield to be worth it). I would maybe make the Teladi a much higher base shielding for S class, the Paranid regen much higher so it might be worth the extra delay for the quicker regen, and Argon either shorten the delay so it reserves a position or a mild increase to regen rate and max capacity instead to keep it "in the middle". For M class shields, I would double the regen rate (or at least 50% more regen), and increase the delay so that in the M class it isn't based on max shield (therefore Teladi or Go Home) and the M class military don't feel as fragile. Currently the only use for M class military is as patrol craft killing fighters OOS. If M class didn't feel so fragile they would have a use in fleet battles, as it is, as patrol craft, they don't fight often, and OOS it doesn't matter if they can't turn, it is a 100% hit chance. However, you can change those figures. It is just a CAT file, and you get the modified flag, but it really doesn't matter, it is a single player game.
