I was hoping you'd mention the difference between the two scan mode software packages. I just always buy the mk2 version and hope it's worthwhile. The learning curve keeps hampering my gaming time.

I absolutely agree with everything in your comment @scintilion !! I haven't taken the time to figure out the difference, but I think it has to do with scan distance effectiveness. In software, I also give every ship in repair a police scanner, trading, and for large traders, I throw in at least a Mk 1 docking software (in case I drive that boat someday).

Ok, I just checked the in-game Encyclopedia...it says the difference is increased "scan resolution", which is more capable of identifying certain objects. I guess that means it can show us if an "object" is a satellite, mine, etc.
