It all depends if that box rooted, and if it is rooted will they allow free installation of sideloaded apps. From the product description it looks like that is an official Netflix certified TV box that is not rooted. I could be wrong.

I am attempting that as we speak and it's not working because the box will not allow me flash via SD or USB, I also tried the internal OTA update and still doesn't work. I don't know why!

OK there are app that require special permission to access the root system files of the box the work as they take control over certain main features of the box during operation, for example screen direction and resolution. When a box is rooted it allows these apps to be installed via the Google play store or via side-loaded APK file you my download separately. It also grants permission for those app to run. When a box is not rooted it block apps from access the root files of the box. Not all app require root access only certain special ones. For example screen mirroring apps that mirror you phone or tablet with you box, and gamepad key-mapping apps that allows you to play touchscreen games on a TV box that does not have touch features. Without root access these app cannot work on a box that is "not rooted". Other apps will work fine with no problems at all. In the Google play store these apps that require root access normally has an (ROOT) next to them, or (NO ROOT) if no root access is required. I hope I have explained enough?

No that's a permissions settings to allow installation from an unknown source. Root access deals with accessing the core system files to make changes, which also constitutes allowing apps to install from unknown sources, but that's a small part of it.

I use tv boxes mainly for movies streeming from my pc, for kodi, utube, browsing and using web-tv Apps which I run via DD & Dts sounds AV-Reciever via passthrew HDMI connector, meanning that this audio options are very important to me. I own two H96 Pro+ which were quite satisfying, looking for better options lately since some apps don't run quit well on my alfawise anymore. I'd love to know, for my type of using, what tv box is best? should I prefare android or windows? Once tried Xiaomi mi box that runs on androin-tv OS that was very limited & unsatisfying for my usage, so android-tv definetly not an option. thank U very much for your help.

Got the box myself it's awful the firmware needs a big sort out tested it with many apps you get screen flickering at times with some apps the launcher as the man says is a lookalike Android TV OS with none of the features tried with a few movies files and struggles at time getting rid of it unless I can find a better firmware

Im using a 4k tv n resolution is 2160 or whatever i looked into it if you gonin droid settings n lower your resolution to 1080 50 i just tried it n its working so far before i found out i had to push button for factory reset n it would fix but had to do it everytime plus most isnt in 4k so i just dropped doen to 1080
