It's an awesome piece of Australian motoring history. And it certainly sounds like the current owner is a worthy custodian. ✌️ Peace.

I had a XA GT red & black in ‘83 4spd. Then in ‘85 I brought another XA GT all black , red velour interior 4spd with a supercharger & my plate was GT-671 perfect condition..sold it in melb in 88 for $10k

It's great to have those memories. The supercharged XA GT sounds like it was awesome. And 10 grand was a lot of money back then.

The XA GT And the XW GT were the best GT build . Love the XA GT in mustard colour 👌. Drove a XA GT in Tamworth at my young brother wedding which was our Friends GT in Red with black trim 4 speed pulled real hard . My oldest brother had a XW Windsor GT . He sold it now and now had a full resto only time the motor came out was to fit a timing chain and freeze plugs it lived its life on dirt roads in them days . I know he had it up to 125 mph over taking a WB Ute 🙀. Man this was when you enjoyed your GT Or you’re Charger . Those days are long gone .

Incredible the history on this XA and it still lives. Credit to the owners over it's life to not destroy it but keep it going, color change is no big deal considering the evolution it's lived through. What a gem of a car to own especially when you had your arse in it 7yrs old. I remember those days being a kid and the 351's scaring the crap out of me. Fond memories. Thanks for sharing this AG and current owner.

I remember back in the 80's i worked in a shell service station it was closing time and a XA GT 2 door coup drove in. it was black with silver inserts lowered with the chrome splats wide rims. the guy driving was low on fuel but we already had closed down the console for the night and he was pissed so he got in and drove off aggressively. When he took off I heard it chirped in 3rd gear.. These cars are awesome. Great memories.

Good story. Friend of mine bought an XA GT manual coupe when it was near new and drove it till the early 80's and like your car it was in storage for a long time. Somewhere over 20 years, maybe 25. Anyway he had it totally stripped down and restored and it came up like new, winning a couple of major prizes at car shows. It's complianced 10/72. I just checked my pics and it has an 8 grand tacho too. Something I didn't know that later ones were different.

car has been wrecked a bit from color change to Onix black ..a shame may be a thin layer of body .filler all over the car by looking at photo shots in video being a ex panel beater and spray painter my self ..will cost thousands may be 20k to 30 k to get original paint color back and still won't be right ....also rocket covers changed and sticker kit from ford under bonnet all gone and had so many owners car has had in the past ....good luck in the future with the gt still a nice ride

The colour can always be put back. Not sure why you think that it won't be right if it is re painted? I get that the paint jobs these days are very different to the factory finish. Thanks for commenting.

Hearing of the time frame, and looking at the eurocryl sticker, that would nearly have to be the start of it. Eurocryl was the solid colour, ie the onyx black and the silver would have been in Eurobase, seems it's a metallic. I did my apprenticeship in an all Spartan shop, it's now Sikkens solvent base if he wants to use the same product. Was great paint then, still is now, along with Glasurit. There comes a time when everything needs restoration, not everyone can be a survivor. The fact that it's a matching numbers GT, if the restoration is done completely as per factory, is just as desirable as a survivor for me. I'm in a particular GMH scene, and there's numerous people say that they do them completely correct, but not 1 of them does. It takes lots of time, and a big amount of research and attention to detail. I love the look as it is, once the engine bay goes back to factory look, I'd be happy as Larry. Stunning car for its age.
@restoblastrestoblast1546 күн бұрын
If you can get a quality paint job for 20 grand in 2024 do it. I'd say more like 50 grand to do an authentic GT factory style paint job, by a specialist. The minimal modifications apart from the colour change is a saviour. The fact that it hasn't had some wanker welding all the gaps to make it perfect when an early falcon was nowhere near that, is an absolute blessing. The big thing is, original panels, correct date coded parts and correct finishes on everything, that turns a nice car, in to a desirable car.
