Jesus christ I've long been into progressive metal / fusion but I'd have never guessed this kind of music existed. I'm completely hooked on it right now. Experimental rock all seems to be but poor Primus rip-offs, now this is NOT.
@umpygoodness23695 жыл бұрын
well, Primus stole much of their style (ex: obviously "Elephant Talk" by King Crimson!) and Claypool's singing was just him impersonating THE RESIDENTS... but I've found almost no experimental rock that seems to be poor Primus rip-offs! some recommendations if you don't know yet..... STEVE HILLAGE's 1970s albums... "Road Games" is the only Allan Holdsworth record i like... obviously the first two landmark MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA albums... Return To Forever's Romantic Warrior... as for new bands... LAZOR BLADE from Montreal never lets me down.. and that whole "Stoner-Prog" scene (messy, wild prog?!)... check out JERUSALEM WITCH or even crazy-metal idiots avant WITCHCOCK...

Definitely look further into the RIO and zeuhl side of experimental rock. A healthy heaping of jazz is all experimental rock needs to become kickass music.

EXACTLY. Or FZ was too academic -- no heart. And other times, too juvenile.

"If you don't have a sense of humour it's very difficult to confront what I do. It's a total non-compute if ya can't laugh - especially if ya can't laugh at yourself." - Frank Zappa

There were times when Frank Zappa didn't sound like Zappa either -but I didn't hold that against him

It's fun to see how people always quote or reference new music for them with the same artists always. "this sounds like zappa... This is like Jethro..."

It only sounds like Frank Zappa superficially.Besides Frank Zappa doesn't own the Avant garde,Jazz Fusion, or Prog.
@YuriHabadakas13 жыл бұрын
Sorry, just sounds like a crappy Zappa knock-off to me. I mean, all credit to them if they arrived at this musical conclusion independently, but Frank Zappa beat them to the punch.
@OZErick477 жыл бұрын
At least they sound great... I know Zappa works very well thank you.... This is quite different ... And if it was influenced by Zappa all the better then... I hope you know the rest of their work ..... Objective and discerning appraisal will do instead of flippant assessment ...

Monier Erick that was the "word spaghettiest" way you could've said what you were trying to say lol
@umpygoodness23695 жыл бұрын
TOTALL WRONG. All these bands have the SAME INFLUENCES FZ HAD (ex: wild jazz)... but this sounds VERY LITTLE LIKE FZ... meaning you must need to get out of the house more and check out more experimental musics. (Only someone with limited musical knowledge would think this is Zappa-like. IN FACT, it's the OPPOSITE of FZ's stuff. Zeuhl bands GROOVE, while FZ hated giving us tasty grooves etc. FZ had to over-intellectualize his music, to overcompensate. HE WAS TRYING TOO HARD.) (I can't even listen to FZ's music, except Uncle Meat and We're Only In If For The Money. He's too juvenile, too predictable.)
