After 12 years of living and dancing in St Petersburg, Xander Parish left his career as principal dancer with the Mariinsky Ballet - and much else behind - due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. After many months without performing, he has joined the Norwegian National Ballet and also taken on the directorship of a project, Reunited in Dance, launched at the Segerstrom Center in California in November. In this filmed interview, he shares his story with Dance Europe.

So glad to get this update from Xander Parish and to know that he and his wife are safe and well after months of uncertainty. Norway and Yorkshire have close historic links - even their DNA is intertwined! - so Xander should fit in well.

He's not only a talented (and good-looking :) dancer but a person with a beautiful soul. Pleasure to watch and listen to. Wish him all the best. Xander, we miss you here in Saint Petersburg

@@PeacherLiz he’s a nice guy, I have been to a ballet class he taught at the royal opera house a few years ago, but real fur is grim in my opinion. And CG is a grim company. End of.

Жаль, что Ксандер повелся на пропаганду своей родной страны и не разобравшись в ситуации, принципиально громко покинул Россию, чем, думаю, захлопнул эту дверь для себя. Думаю, что сейчас он жалеет о таком шаге

You made the right decision and it must have been very hard to choose. No matter where you go your talent is yours. I am sure the years in Russia were beautiful and have left very valuable memories. You are richer for them.
