Pushkar music : RAJURI

3rd february 2012: I met RAJURI NAYAK BHOPA, street singer, and Chena Ram (ravanhatta player and singer). They sung 5 songs. Here, one of them: a famous marwadi gana: Bakari. Chena Ram is one of the best ravanhatta player in Pushkar. All over the world, there is street singers, singing outside their home, openly, in streets, restaurants, gardens and so on, everywhere.

0:02 She says jockingly ,"Now do it alone, I won't be doing it." 0:58 हरी हरी ए चूंटी चरले मुवन बकरी ऐ ,चरले मुवन बकरी ऐ। आवेलो कसाई तन्ने ले ज्यासी, बे तो ले ज्यासी। ("Oh Goat,! please graze the greener grass , one day butcher will come and take you from here. " Here she refers Goat as human race and suggest us humans to use all the possible means to find our oneness with God. ) 1:18 line repeat 1:37 राम जी रो नाम तू तो भजले मुवन प्यारा रै, भजले मुवन लोभी रे राम जी को नाम लिया तिर ज्यासी, बै तो तिर ज्यासी। ( " Chant lord Ram's name Oh! fool. By doing so you will be able to get across this physical world." Here she says never to forget our lord, keeping his presence in our words will make us able to find salvation.) 1:58 सावण रो गाज्यो रै, भादुडो जी बरसै , भादुदो जी बरसै । मोटी मोटी छांटा वालो म्हे बरसै, वै तो म्हे बरसै।( "Its monsoon and clouds are growling in month of Sawan( mid August) and raining in Bhadrapad( mid September). Rain is full of thick drops." she compares here rain and monsoon with the changes of life.) 2:18 अछि अछि रे मटिया नै, खोद ले कुम्हार रै , खोद ले कुम्हार रै, एक दिन मटिया मैं गळ ज्यासी रई। बे तो जल ज्यासी। ( " oh potter, dug the good clay soil for the pots , one day it will all melt back to earth. " same meaning as earlier, suggesting use of earthly resources for spiritual growth). 2:40 same line 2:52 भय्य अछि अछि लकड़ी नै काट लै कारीगर रै , काट ले कारीगर रै, एक दिन लकड़ी मै जळ ज्यासी , बे तो जळ ज्यासी। (" oh carpenter, cut the good quality wood. One day it will also burn." same meaning as earlier. ) 3:10 same line. 3:29 राम जी रो नाम भजले मुवन प्यारा रै, भजले मुवन लोभी रे।राम जी को नाम लिया तीर ज्यासी, बे तो तीर ज्यासी। (" Chant lord Ram's name Oh! fool. Thank you for your kind comment. Unfortunately, I don't know marwadi language. If anybody could translate, it would be great. Many of their songs are bhajan (devotional songs, to Baba Ram dev, Pabu Ji, Rama, Mata Di etc), many talks about the relation between brothers and sisters, and about separation (in hindi: judai) or traditional marriage (in hindi: shadi).

In Rajasthan, I discovered street music… in the streets !
