This is easily one of the best tutorials I've seen for Xara. Thanks for covering this, helped me a lot in figuring out how to manage this.

Again, I'm really glad that you liked the tutorial, Christopher. I try really hard to cover the basics of each tool and how it can be used to create things that any person might want to create. A lot of what I cover can be found in the help guide, but the help doesn't always do an explanation the same justice that a video can.

I found this video very useful. I like your tutorials because you cover the basics, and these videos are helping me to wrap my heas around Xara. Thanks for posting them.

Why thank you Jon. I am happy that you find my tutorials useful. You have to start somewhere and the basics are the best place to start. If you (or anyone else for that matter) ever find a certain area that is giving you problems, please let me know and I will see if I can't come up with a tutorial to explain things.

I'm sure glad I learned about the bounds creation tool!! Wow!! Makes everything much easier. Thanks very much. I've got it down pat now.

Awesome Bob! I'm glad that you are progressing with your Xara experience. I have several of these basic tool tutorials that should help you out. Once you have those down, you can progress to the "how to draw X" tutorials.

Thanks for your reply to my prior comment. You did not mention "bounds creation" in your video,as I recall, and I had never heard that term before. So I asked Xara Support for an answer, and they responded with a diagram to show me where this tool was located. That was interesting! Now I have learned something new, which led me to subscribe to your channel so I can learn even more. Always learning!

Hi Bob, I'm happy that you find my tutorials helpful. About the circle creation, you can also view my response to David Deer on this same video. You are correct that I should have included the circle creation in the video. I believe that I have another video on the shape tool that covers the types of creation methods that might also be helpful.

Great tutorial. the latest version (pro x 15.1) has all the tools however the circle created does not have anchor points along the centre so when the shape editor is applied it can only select points lying at 45 degrees from the centre line. Other than that the tools work in the same way.
@NarrenzunftKalbach5 жыл бұрын
Hi David. I'm glad you like the tutorial. You did, however, uncover one thing that I probably should have also covered in the video which is how to properly create the circle. There are three ways to create a circle (ellipse) in Xara. Radius, Diameter and Bounds creation. There are three buttons that appear once you choose the ellipse tool that let you choose one of these. Choose Bounds creation and you will get the anchor points where I have them in the video. Holding the Ctrl key while you drag the mouse will get you a perfect circle. All of this is still valid in the latest version of Xara Designer Pro and has been since the beginning. I hope that helps.

You leave out one of the most important points at the very beginning, and that is how to establish the two points that become your break points. Also, the cross-hairs.
@NarrenzunftKalbach5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, I have to disagree with you. I didn't leave out how to establish the points as they are a part of the circle when I created it. I'm not sure what you are talking about regarding the cross-hairs. Just create a circle using bounds creation, switch over to the shape tool (F4) and follow the steps of the tutorial exactly as I posted it and you won't have any difficulty at all.

I can't break any circle, even if I converted it to a editable shape. trying since i paid for the software Xara photo and graphic designer
@NarrenzunftKalbach6 жыл бұрын
Hi DMC, I'm sorry that you are having problems. I have Xara Designer Pro and not Photo and graphic designer. That being said your program is a subset of the one that I use. I'm not sure if "break at points" is a function that is available in your version. You can test it out quite easily however. Follow these steps: 1) Draw your circle (add an outline and remove the fill if you want to follow my tutorial). 2) Convert to editable shapes 3) Click and drag two of the points with the selector tool 4) Press B on the keyboard to break at points. If that works then you do have access to break at points in your version and if not then you may need to consider upgrading. I hope that helps.

the problem with old tutorials is that they are useless for the new software as the buttons no longer are what they were.. sigh

silmearendil what version of the software are you using and perhaps I can make an updated video.

Hi, I have the latest Xara 365, Though it is sorta a con as they haven't updated it since I got it lol. You have the best xara tutorials on the web and I am putting a concerted effort into learning this software.

Can you please tell me what tool you don't see? If you are talking about the "Convert to editable shapes" tool, that is one that I have added to a custom toolbar. If you would like to know how to create your own custom toolbars, please view this tutorial. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXXMZKt8qZ58raM (If you are referring to a different tool, please let me know and I will do what I can to help.)
