Comments and videos are wild… it’s a 12 week main set cycle. Mini sets usually split that in half. This time, they simply want to align it with Pokémon day announcements. Main set still arrives at the same pace as last time. Having the mini set earlier mostly means having an 8 week meta instead of 6. Having longer to access to all the packs in this cycle will actually be a POSITIVE to the players.

Past duel links player here, while still a popular game but what really killed a massive part of its player base was packs coming out once a month. They really need to slow things down to like once every 2-3 months, or hell even follow the same release rotation as the tcg.

As a former marvel snap player, I hated how frequently the meta was changed. It never got a chance to breathe. Even when the meta was in a stable state, the devs would buff or nerf cards just for the sake of doing so (not to mention new cards releasing every damn week)

@@MrDanno yeah I heard it was bad there too, I get that a lot of pokemon fans will buy especially because of the recent scalper issue but it really needs to slow down or more needs to get introduced (like a seasonal pvp system with its own shop) so people stay outside of limited events.

I'd agree if the game had a bigger card pool, but for now its still very barebones, with barely 450 different unique cards in the game. I think they should slow down after a couple more main sets.

Its only releasing early due to Pokemon day being the day before. They will drop the teaser on 27th before release. Then the cycle of 6 weeks will go back to normal after a 2 month gap.

i feel like the second set was fine (its also only one pack in the set so its easy to get all your cards) but yeah this third one was pretty fast. there should be an event to half or shorten the pack opening timer for like a week so we can spam open cases, i think that would be a neat event

Because it's to get you to start spending real cash to catch em all. But yeah I feel you. I'm still missing two three diamonds, and tons of one star and two from first set. The mini set I got everything but the one star and above is still a hole. Like they keep dropping sets and we don't get much hourglasses, and when the sets drops like how could we keep up and open old sets? You can forget pack points also. How you suppose to reach 1k? Even 500 is a lot of packs to open, but you wanna open the new stuff.

There’s no way to “fix” the servers for pack drops. The only option is implementing a queue and only letting some amount of players log in at a time. It doesn’t make sense $$ wise to implement a system to handle 100-1000x the traffic they normally have for just 2 hours

Yes there is. You can very easily spin up servers for applications like this based on traffic. There are very popular tools that are used that are built exactly for situations like this (Kubernetes), spinning up servers based on load then spinning them back down once things slow down again. Most databases can handle 10's of thousands of writes per second, and combine this with any kind of queue and there should be far less issues. Extreme increases of traffic in a low amount of time can still slow things down, but you can create a system that responds to such things quickly. Its a very solveable problem.

@ I could have been a bit more clear in the first part of my comment. My main point is that it’ll cost too much. Yes you can throw more machines at the problem, but it’s just not worth it for them. The traffic will calm down and they’re not going to lose players because of it. If this was very solvable then it wouldn’t happen across so many games and websites

This isn't overly shocking. Considering the next main set is still set for the end of April they are likely just moving the mini set a bit ahead to have it out close to Pokemon Day. It doesn't really change things up all that much. We'll have 2 full months with our current sets and the mini. If they were legitimately trying to rush then the next main set would be more like early-mid April. I'm feeling the heat as well. But this sort of thing shouldn't happen too often.

Honestly I think the pace makes sense. Even without ever touching the beta I had about enough time to mostly complete genetic apex before the miniset dropped, then after completing that I went back and looked for what was left of genetic apex. This time the wait is shorter, sure, but we only have 2 packs to open, so its going to be completed faster. Not to mention a bunch of people have saved hourglasses so it'll be even quicker for them.

As a premium player, it's too soon for the miniset. Having it towards half March, exactly in between the two major ones like with Mythical Island would be far more balanced for both the game's health and the player's patience.

I think a basic pokemon that ramps would be way to broken for Mewtwo decks, I hope they enhance the aspect of the original card being a mobile tank you can shift around as needed to tank damage for your other cards

@ why would it be too broken? If it ramps in the active spot then mewtu can’t get much benefit from it. We have palkia, manaphy and Misty, so why not a psychic ramp? Maybe something that needs 2 energy before it csn give any energy, similar to Dialga

I believe the next mini booster pack, will have this 5 ex Pokémon: Giratina EX, Torterra Ex, Empoleon EX, Shaymin EX and Arceus EX. Plus having the rest of Sinnoh pokémon that didn't appear yet like Munchlax, Mime Jr. , Mantyke, Phione, Snorunt (since Frostlass was added in Sinnoh), Cherubi, Happiny, Mothim, Chingling, at least I hope so...
