Bless you sir… this is the FIRST pool video that gives you step by step instruction and what parts to get. Most videos the whole rig is already set up and they just point to what the pieces are “Over here I got the sand filter… filled with sand I’m assuming…”

I watched your last video and was immediately off to the hardware store. On the way I thought I don't know when's the last time I saw my gasket material. So when I walked in, by then the wheels were turning. I thought why not just use an all rubber connection. So I wasn't surprised to find your second video when I got back and you did exactly what I was going to suggest. You are still the man!

Helpful! I have what appears to be the same pool setup and the same Intex sand filter. I went to my local hardware store and decided to try the black 1" Fernco rubber coupling (instead of 1-1/4", which just *looked* a little bigger than it needed to be). It was a snug fit, but it worked perfectly. This is just an FYI for anyone reading comments and wondering about which sizes work for the couplings since several are listed in the video notes.

Awesome! It's nice when you can find them at the local HW store, usually a bit cheaper then getting them on Amazon. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

So you bought 1 1/4 coupling? I'm going today
@lisar.85024 жыл бұрын
We did the conversation to our 16'x48' summer waves. It cost $4.00 and some change. We used the intex water jet that came with the pump. You just have to cut a slightly larger hole in the pool wall were the existing jet is. By doing this, you don't need an adapter. Direct connect to intex hose. We left the existing short hose on the skimmer, got one of those black rubber couplings from HD, i believe 1 1/4 to 1 1/2. It couples the two hoses together with band clamps. You don't use the collar of the intex hose and voila, you're up and running.
@GuidingBoltGaming4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, Lisa! How did cutting the hole bigger in the pool go? I would be worried about it weakening the liner and possibly having it tear. But if it works and it's cheap, I have to give it a stamp of approval!
@lisar.85024 жыл бұрын
@@GuidingBoltGaming the area of the original hole is reinforced with thicker material, same as the skimmer hole. You basically cut around .25 of an inch or less all around. The easiest way is to use the rubber gasket that comes with the intex water jet as a stencil and draw out the inner circle. You still have plenty of the reinforced material left. It doesn't have to be a perfectly clean cut either. It gets covered and isn't seen. I would suggest a very sharp blade to make things go smoother.
@lisar.85024 жыл бұрын
@@GuidingBoltGaming another side note is that doing it this way allows for the easy addition of an intex plunger valve to shut off the water flow. It connects right to the water jet and you connect the hose from the pump to the bottom.

You can do it!
@amylaura25813 жыл бұрын
This is making things 10x harder, you just get 2 adapters from Lowes (1 1/2 inch to 1 1/4) and it works. You can even get part that screws into the bottom after you remove the motor from summer waves. But that's optional, it works either way.
@siennalake43263 жыл бұрын
What adaptors did you use? I've been trying to find something that would work for 2 summers! Even went to my local hardware store and associate couldn't find anything to work either.

Do you have to flip the skimmer pump over or can you leave as is and still get plenty of flow with new intex pump

I reversed mine, it just looked to close to allow good water flow with it the other way.

I gutted out the pump on my best way skimmer, I’m the new connections will work. As I saw doing this I was still trying to be able to connect the vacuum securely and not do something to mess up my sand filter pump, I think I’ve got it, i decided to look at all the connections for the vacuum when I discovered that both of the hose connections with the threads, threaded perfectly on the top of it! I think it will be perfect!! My only concern is can I keep it attached all the time? Both of the connectors fit the opening is a little smaller though, I’ll be able to put it on only when I vacuum if I have to, but if I can avoid the frustration, well I figured why not. I’m asking are my thoughts correct, if not please let me know, and if you think that leaving it attached would be ok, it all fits perfectly , the filter and basket still fit too,... I’d appreciate your feedback. You are great at explaining things as you go and you don’t talk too much, like I do lol 😂 Thanks

How much salt did you use to convert the Summer Waves pool over to salt water? We just picked up the an Intex sand filter/salt pump and the fittings you listed. Thank you for any advice/assistance you can offer!
@GuidingBoltGaming4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob, I'm just running the sand filter, no salt pump attached. However, that should be fine for you because you'll still use the adapters on the hoses that connect back to the pool. If I remember correctly the sand filter and salt system connect to each other.

@GuidingBoltGaming4 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing there's a good chance you'll be able to use the same fittings. It's still going to Summer Waves to Intex Filter which is what I have so chances are they've keep the openings/fittings the same size across models. I'd just order from Amazon, so if you need to return it's no hassle.

Question, I just converted my summer wave pool pump to an Intex sand filler. I was wounded what you use to vacuum your pool? I had an adapter for the summer wave pump. Will The adapter still work even though the summer waves pump is no longer working?
@GuidingBoltGaming4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jaron - I get a ton of questions on this, and it's going to be my top priority once I get the pool up this year. Most likely you're going to want to use the vacuum with the water hose. If you were to use the summer waves vacuum with the Intex pump you may collapse the summer waves tank. What I and others have found is the stock summer waves hose/vacuum can't keep up with the Intex pump and it drains the summer waves tank to fast. There's a few things I'm going to try once the pool is up. 1. Angle the vacuum head so it doesn't lay flat on the pool floor 2. Remove the summer waves pump (if you haven't already) and put an adapter on the bottom of the tank to increase water flow. Right now I have the old pump still in the tank but it's turned off and reversed so the water isn't flowing through it. 3. Remove the plastic + where the Summer Waves tank connects to the Intex hose (again to increase water flow). If none of that does the trick I'll be looking at modifying the vacuum head/hose and where it connects to the top of the summer waves pump tank.
@lisar.85024 жыл бұрын
We tried using the plate that came with the pool and it was a no go. The suction created by the intex pump is too much. We have the 14" pump BTW. It pulled the plastic down so hard, it bent it and there was no seal. We were afraid to damage the skimmer housing. Have a stand alone vacuum but will most likely rig up something to connect a hose directly to the pump.
