Xbox One Wireless Keyboard Tutorial (Using Windows Logitech Keyboard)

There's no need to wait for Microsoft to release a keyboard for the Xbox One. Follow this short tutorial to set up your existing wireless keyboard on your Xbox One. It seems Microsoft supports HID compliant drivers on the Xbox One console.
For this tutorial I set up and demonstrate the use of a Logitech K400. This wireless keyboard/trackpad combo runs about $30. It seems that the Xbox One uses HID compliant drivers, as it seems to be compatible with this Logitech keyboard. If you guys try any other keyboard/trackpad combos let me know the results!
UPDATE: Apparently Logitech pulled a quick one and changed their K400 series to the K400r... A lot of people are having issues with getting the K400r to work with various platforms (including Android and Xbox One). I'm wondering if the K400r are even truly HID compliant...

Using a K400r with my XBO right now, seems to be really good as JUST a QWERTY keyboard. There is an integrated touchpad, but the system does not recognize it (as well as most of the function keys or Windows keys, ironically). Just as long as the USB receiver is familiar (tethered) with the keyboard, it should be virtually plug and play. Kinda cool. For some reason had the same thought as you after finishing some overtime when I was sleep deprived as all getout. Went something like "GOD DANGIT I WANT A KEYBOARD" followed by bumbling around looking for the matched USB adapter (there's three floating around here). Always thought it was ironic they call it a "Unity" adapter when it defies Bluetooth HID standards. I DIDN'T have to factory reset at all. Love the people complaining about how long your video is. I'd wager they'll complain about how long this comment is, which may or not have been padded just to exacerbate things.

I didn't even know this would work. This is totally amazing. I happened to have that same exact keyboard lying around in the box that I never thought I would use. This hack just saved me $500 because I was going to buy an macbook mini to use for Skype on my TV, now I can use my Xbox with Kinect and this keyboard to have a full skype experience

thanks for your video. I went to Wal Mart and all of their Logitechs were sold out, so I purchased one called "blackweb wireless touch keyboard" for $24.99. Okay - first off, this guy is obviously not in IT. Here's the proper steps for successfully completing this: **You likely may not need to restart your XBOX One. ***I just successfully completed this 5 minutes after reviewing this video after having no success with hard reset, etc. ****I had an Old Logitech Revue sitting around my house, unused for a few years (Google TV). I was thinking "man, it would be great to use the keyboard from that on my new XBOX One." Then I stumbled on this factually incomplete video. I had an extra Logitech Unifying Receiver USB adapter sitting on my desk and noticed that the icon on the back of the K700 Keyboard that came with the Revue were the same - Unifying! The Logitech Unifying adapter (little USB Dongle with the orange star on it) stores information about paired components. 1) Before you do anything, connect the Logitech Unifying Adapter to the USB port of your Windows PC. 2) Install the Logitech Unifying Software from their website. 3) Launch the software, and pair with your wireless keyboard. 4) Confirm that you can successfully use that keyboard on the PC you just did steps 1-3 on. 5) Turn off the keyboard, remove the adapter. 6) Plug the unifying adapter into an available USB port on the XBOX ONE. 7) Turn on they keyboard. 8) It should now function as a QWERTY keyboard, along with using the arrow pad to help make selections.

This will only work in situations where the xbox will prompt a text box to open, it won't work on bad pc ports to xbox one such as trove where to sell 1k of something u need 2 hit rt then up 1000 times b/c it doesnt open a number entry box...

micah dominguez I don't think the K810 will work on the Xbox One because the K810 is bluetooth only and doesn't use the "unifying" usb receiver... AFAIK the X1 doesn't have bluetooth support. I'm now wondering if I can get a usb bluetooth adapter working on the X1...

You can also do a hard reset by holding the button for like 10-15 seconds.

(ik this is 4 years old) DONT do that because that, well yes is equivalent to unplugging the Xbox you don't want to do it. This is because when you unplug the Xbox without turning it off it can damage the hardware. Holding the button down while the Xbox (and other devices) is on is only supposed to be used when the device is completely frozen and it wont unfreeze. Hard resetting by holding the button for about 10-15 seconds regularly or to often will also damage the hardware.

Thomas Harper I'm not sure about the Logitech K400r. Have you already paired your K400r with the usb unifying receiver on your computer with the Logitech software? I honestly wasn't aware they made a change to the product line until I read your post. From the looks of it, Logitech sneakily changed their K400 series to the K400r... Apparently, the K400 (original) version came out pre Windows 8.1, and Logitech wanted to make it more "compatible". WORKING k400r: I used the unifying software and paired within windows 10 device. once paired and working I unplugged the dongle and put in the xbox one, turned it on and the keyboard is working...

Not everyone may have that as an option. Plus a wireless keyboard can go weeks and weeks on the same rechargable batteries versus a phone or tablet running the app for 5-9 hours of on screen time. But the keyboard input def. doesn't want to handle volume so that would continue to be an issue.

Just bought £12 generic wireless 2.4ghz handheld keyboard. Plug in the usb adapter - works no config! Only "problem" doesn't work in games - so no trying to play like a PC!

Uzi Khan you have to do all of the software download on a pc with the Logitech Unifying Software. It will then sync up to six Logitech devices to the usb dongle. This will then allow you to move the dongle to the Xbox.

unplugging the xbox for a hard reset does damage to the hd on the system hold the power button until the system shutsdown and it does a hard reset without the chance of jolting the system when unplugging \
