Hold on…. That chart showed that from 2006-2012 Sony lost 4 billion dollars. That is the time when the most consoles were sold for PlayStation EVER! PS2 sold 65+ million, PS3 80+ million, PSP 75+ million. That’s 200+ million consoles sold in 6 years put them in the hole $4 billion? This to your point…. The PS3 generation lost them a ton of money, because the cost to manufacture it was too high while trying to keep it at a reasonable price, which they didn't do at launch.

Anyone who was paying attention and not just console waring could see Microsoft is the biggest publisher in the industry now.. Tencent is big but they're not a publisher they more just own stakes in everything Microsoft now owns 2 of the 5 biggest games in the industry.. In mindcraft and COD The others are GTA..Fortnite and honor of kings Sony and Nintendo has nothing on that scale.. Xbox already made it clear they're not competing with Sony and Nintendo. ...they're competing with Google,Apple and tencent.

The big difference is active users on console between PS3 to PS4 and PS4 to PS5 or rather the cross-gen games during that period making money off both platforms Just to put that 30% cut into perspective, Spiderman 2 cost 300mil and sold 10mil thats 700mil revenue and 400mil profit. It's really understated how a Xbox handheld is the final piece of the puzzle of what Microsoft is going for here, if it does what I think it should do. Let's say it runs Xbox Series games natively and targets 30fps through dynamic upscaling, let's say Xbox players accept that compromise. That's the complete picture.

It'll be a Series S pretty much which would be great for a handheld. some ppl forget the handheld can't be too powerful or have a high resolution screen cause of battery life. But even 800p looks good on small screen as we've seen on Steam Deck, but it'll probably be 1080p

Can someone correct me, please? Because I can't stop thinking about Activision's multiplatform games. Before MS purchasing ABK, lets say Call Of Duty was placed on the Playstation, and Sony kept 30 percent of the sales. Now that MS owns ABK, and Sony is still keeping 30 percent of all sales, how is it a bad downer for them? Shouldn't it be business as usual for Sony? What am I missing here? Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure it boils down to what Microsoft gets out it more so than what Sony gets out it. Sony can no longer hold content from Xbox or get other special perks without Microsoft giving them. Microsoft also now gets 70% of the revenue from the game and it on Game Pass Day one, which is what they wanted.

51% of all sales on the playstation Storefront are on live service games. COD, Minecraft and 6 others from Xbox are all over those lists of top played live service games. And that 51% is increasing year on year. Next year it may be at 55%. Don't forget Sony has to pay and maintain these services also. On COD Xbox makes 80% not 70% the same as the previous contract. The biggest earner on the Sony platform Sony only gets 20%. It doesn't have any games of it's own anywhere on the chart above around no. 15. On first party sales Sony gets 100%. The point of having a storefront is to sell your own games at maximum profit. That's a fail on playstation.

If the games remain of consistently good quality that should draw more people to the console automatically. Of course, Microsoft putting their games on pc day/date and even PlayStation at a later date will detract from that, but Microsoft is fine with that as long as they're getting the sales and engagement. The focus from these console manufacturers should always be the games first and the console second, because it's the games that draw people to the platform not the other way around.

Thats not how you sell consoles. You sell them by offering must have exclusives that doesn't exist anywhere else. That's why Sony and Nintendo are dominating the console market. Microsoft want to put their games on PlayStation aswell. Meaning the reason to buy an Xbox is greatly diminished.

​@dante19890 Exclusives don't sell near as many consoles as people think. Nintendo is the exception because their primary focus is their exclusive. They don't rely on the third party franchises like Microsoft and Sony. The majority buy a console because they have friends that use the same console and or they are already invested into that eco system. What exclusives there is isn't really the big reason. Exclusives sell to less than ten percent of the Playstation install base and around 30% of the Ninntendo. You don't see mobile and pc gamers using exclusives as the reason they game on those platforms and there are far more people gaming on those platforms.

Microsoft akways take the lost on the Xbox console sales by offsetting the console sales with Xbox controllers, game pass & other pro consumer friendly to the casual consumers. That's why Microsoft already said there was no need for a mid gen Xbox refresh as the data they got from the Xbox One X/PS4 Pro is the Xbox Series X mid gen refreshed that Sony is counting shipped hardware sales with sold hardware sales to the investor's/shareholder's. Sony is broke & they might have to partner with another company to buy from software parent company & the other rumored of buying Ubisoft is a huge laughing stock.

Sony has closed studios. Both sides have. London studios. Firewalk and more. Concord. 51% of all sales on PS platform are live service games with call of duty at the top and 6 others on the list. These are funding Xbox's studios and stifling Sony. It's only first party game this year Astrobot only sold 1.5 million copies. Gamepass isn't "blocked" at anything. Numbers will increase, especially in the cloud sector. Microsoft is building multi billion dollar data centres in UK, USA, France, Australia, India and others to meet market demand for cloud services. Sony has the portal? It's a joke in comparison. Sony's streaming only streams either direct from your PS5 or games that are on PS+. With gamepass any game I have purchased on my Xbox account either on PC or Xbox can be played over the cloud on any device I own that has an internet browser. Can the portal play Baldurs Gate 3 for example? Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom liberty? COD BO6? Indiana Jones? No. There are millions of devices that Gamepass can stream to. I have a steam deck, gaming PC's, tablets, phones. I can even run gamepass on my PSVita or even on the switch if you know how. You can only see the portal because it is locked down ecosystem to the PS5 and the portal. Even the steam deck has a better experience at streaming from playstation using chiaki-ng Ghost of T on the steam deck Oled is awesome a much much better display than the portal display at a solid locked 60fps with no latency whatsoever.
