I get that you have your own ideas about game development, but it's a pretty complex field with a lot of details that might not be obvious. It's okay if you don't know exactly how games are made, but try not to treat your opinions like they're absolute facts Developing last-gen games for current-gen consoles can be easier due to mature development tools, established frameworks, backward compatibility, optimized engines, and the enhanced hardware of current-gen consoles that simplify adaptation and improve performance. The Xbox Series S adds complexity with its lower specs, necessitating extra effort to ensure games look and run well requiring careful optimization and sometimes compromises. On the other hand, PC gaming development presents its own difficulties due to the vast array of hardware configurations. With numerous CPUs, GPUs, and memory setups, as well as varying screen resolutions and input methods, developers must conduct extensive testing and optimization to ensure smooth performance across all types of PC builds.

My dude. That Series S/X being an AMD PC is not my opinion. It is a fact. I literally just showed you whats inside at the beginning of the video. You said: "Developing last gen games for current-gen consoles can be easier due to mature development tools and established frameworks, backward compatibility and optimized engines" Ok. if that was the case, I have 2 questions for you. 1) why is Returnal a so-called "next gen game" built with what people call a "last gen engine"? 2) What tools are being used for "last-gen" that are inherently different from those used in making games today? 3) Why would you presume I don't know how games are made? Did I say something to that effect?

@@VGFightSchool We're not game developers, but since I work in the software and hardware development space, I can tell you that the challenges I face are pretty similar to what game devs deal with though they often have it even tougher. Just seeing a picture of the specs of something like an AMD CPU doesn't mean you really get how it all works. For instance, the Xbox Series S has lower wattage than the Series X, so developers have to think about power consumption, heat, and keeping performance up. These kinds of limitations can really affect how a game is made and how much the hardware can handle to meet the developers goals. Regarding the use of Unreal Engine 4 for Returnal, it’s not fare to label the engine as ‘old-gen.’ Unreal Engine 4 is still a strong choice for current-gen consoles due to its stability, extensive documentation, and proven tools for creating high-quality games. It’s also effective at optimizing performance across different generations of hardware old and new. While we might not fully grasp every nuance of game development, when developers mention that the Series S poses challenges, it’s worth trusting their expertise they have no reason to mislead us.

Here's to debunk this myth My pc AMD ryzen 6600u Cpu - 6c/12t zen 3 Gpu - 6CU rdna 2 Note : (1CU=64cores,6CU=384 cores) Ram :12gb (6+6)... Runs black myth wukong on 720p low/mid 40fps and avg 29fps.. Series s AMd custom APU Cpu - 8c/12t zen 2 Gpu - 20CU rdna 2 (20CU=1280 cores) Ram - 10gb I hate to say it, series s is insanely more powerful than my pc and it can't run wukong is downright Hypocrisy... Steamdeck has 4c/8t cpu and 8CU rdna 2(8CU=512 cores) and it runs wukong at 720p low fine... Remember, steamdeck apu has cap on 15w tdp which limits it power..

Not enough people moved to PS5 and Xbox Series. The over bloomed cost of development makes them develop for both gens. It’s the snake eating itself situation.

Also the ps5 and series x struggle with new game engines like UE5.Dont be ignorant but people need to realize their favorite plastic box is already obsolete more so with the base ps5 facts are facts google is free ✌️

From my point of view, microsoft making this lil system target 1440p is what's hurting it the most. It's an amazing 1080p system for the price and if they had focused on 1080p only for the series s things would've been better for it.

A developer does not need to target the resolution. They can use the resolution they wish. I mean, Final Fantasy XVI used 720p to attain 60fps even though the hardware is advertised as 4K (prior from 8K)

I think because of the move to x86 based architecture with the 8th gen consoles and the rise in affordable PC parts some of the studios and devs just got lazy cause you're basically just developing your game for PC and then focusing on the console hardware is an afterthought. Sony still has a kot of loyal studios that still low key consider the themselves first party so they make absolutely sure that their games look excellent on PlayStation hardware before they focus on the PC versions. Just my theory tho

Rift apart was used to compare the ps4 to ps5. I've got a series s, x and ps5 and the obvious is the series s is scaled down compared to the X and ps5 and that makes perfect sense. I think that time is a big factor because GS recently talked about Calisto and what happened. Devs aren't being given the time we see it with Redfall and other games. Next Gen is just the next version and I think people have a mix of misleading marketing and unrealistic expectations. If you were around for can it run crysis ? You'd know. Arkham Knight even today, holds up and holds up beautifully across nearly all platforms. I've seen good dev work and absolutely abysmal dev work and Idk if they weren't the best for the job or weren't given the time. Black Myth Wukong is a great game, it will run on a series s and when it does you will still get people compairing a Toyota prius to a Ferrari and not appreciating the time and work it took to make it happen.

I almost have a headache trying to explain this thing to internet gamers. These folk can see a pig and call it a dinosaur even when its "oinking" at them. That Glen Scofield's interview was the most valuable resource to break open why these ports were bad in 2023. It was as if devs were losing their minds to pump out games as fast as they could.

To be honest all the gamers that refuse to upgrade is holding gaming back. NBA2k25 shouldn’t still be releasing on ps4 and Xbox one. Companies is still going to try to make the most money. They not going to leave all that ps4 and X1 money behind.

I think it comes down to developers trying to be over ambitious, or lack of skill/ optimization, or trying to make a claim for needing more performance to push sales for new consoles to be bought, combination of all those. If you look at cyber punk 2077 the game looks amazing and is massive and runs at 60fps sooooo I’m cool with games looking that good 🤷‍♂️

When you make your next video consider this Games that target the lowest common denominator are usually more successful. Fortnite target Switch, some mobile that are weaker than Switch and guess what? It is one of the most played game ever. Even on PC, not everyone has a ray-tracing GPU. Everyone who says "[x] is holding back gaming doesn't realize the majority of gamers aren't caught up to the latest specs.

I heard developers say that this current gen and last gen consoles never achieved their full potential and after watching this video it basically just helps confirm it, i know that ratchet and clank could of ran on a ps4 but Sony being Sony i guess.

blamimg on the dev is really a bad optic from a gamer tho. might as well you don't need to upgrade a hardware (gpu, cpu) just because you believe 5+ years old hardware can a run the newest game
