Honestly im starting to realize how bad gamepass is as well. Although idk how much money they make from their game being on gamepass. But yea, most pple wont buy games anymore and just wait for it to be on gamepass. They wont even buy games they liked when they leave gamepass

Actually I think you can. That was a very word of mouth game and its a niche genre. It would’ve done leagues better if it actually had some advertisement. Im honestly blown away at the sheer lack of advertisement done for games like HiFi Rush to bring more people to Gamepass or sell more copies.

Tango specifically getting shut down seems like a causality of Gamepass. For subscription services, subscriber growth is everything and the reason these layoffs are happening at all is because Starfield was confirmed to not have grown Gamepass to Microsofts expectations. Hi-Fi rush was too big of a game to be considered a low risk investment, but not big enough to push Gamepass growth for Microsoft to happily be investing in the type of games Tango would be making.

Tango just didn’t have the sales numbers as much I hate to admit it. Evil Within and Ghost Runner just weren’t that popular. Their games focused on a niche crowd when Xbox needed a heavy hitter from them.

Tango cuts the deepest. I was so excited to finally be able to play Hi-Fi Rush on PS5. I even got the deluxe edition because the game was so worth supporting. I'm blaming it on Microsoft didn't like the commentary on capitalism the story made.

Maybe. I wouldn’t expect anything drastic. Downsizing of companies or cutting back on budgets etc. is the most I see happening. No where near the original crash.

I actually like my Series S, use it as a media center in the living room. I really like that I have access to a library of old Xbox games with improved visuals. Game Pass is a great deal and I dip in from time to time. But WOW have they dropped the ball with their first-party studios. Forza Horizon 5 slapped, but beyond that, it's been a lot of disappointment. I'm still game for Avowed and Fable, but expectations are low.

If they kill Tango with HFRush, Ninja Theory is next, Hellblade better become the best seller game of 2024, the last game from Ninja Theory was a huge disaster, MS will not forgive to misses back to back unless you have HUGE IP to fall back.

I live 10 mins away from Arkane Austin and its really heartbreaking to see a great studio that produced amazing games like Dishonored 1 and Prey 2017 then produce a dumpster fire with Redfall and now being shut down. They had really talented level designers, artists, and engineers, my heart goes out to them. Also, the fact that Tango Gameworks is shutting down after their surprise hit, Hi-Fi Rush both makes me sad and angry at the same time. Microsoft needs to focus on making due with the studios they have and focus on quality and setting proper financial expectations. No more f****** acquisitions, there's already enough corporate consolidation in the gaming landscape. No more!

Tango GameWorks games are critical darlings but that doesn't mean that its Profitable or Sustainable under XBOX GAME PASS (we will probably never know) but it's an educated guess. To a corporate GIANT's LIKE at MICROSOFT, IT DOES"NT MATTER TO THEM if they are critical darlings IT'S ALL ABOUT MONEY PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Imagine Tango & Austin cost 25 million a year to fund the studio in 2020. Enter high inflation and reduced productivity from remote dev work. So 2024 has doubled the yearly studio cost to 50 million a year & the dev production cycle now takes an extra year. Yeah, the economy is fried imho

I could understand them shrinking Arkane and shutting down the useless mobile studios, but I don’t understand closing down tango. Hi Fu rush did amazing and is a very amazing game :/
