This trailer alone probably cost a few million dollars by the way. A million dollars is nothing to this industry. The estimated cost of the current Halo series for season one is between 90 - 200 million. But youre right. This is easily the best live action Halo action scene made. What astounds me is the guy they’re originally burying was probably a Space Nazi; like Halo Lore explicitly states they were a fascist organization, and the only reason they were remotely equipped to fight Covenant was because ONI was so adept at creating ways to kill other humans. Reach does a great way of showing this, how ONI looks like a Google office but has plans of kinetic missiles to destroy planetoids. Somehow, the Halo show STILL missed this and made a drama where a bad man on a desert planet is….the bad nazi man. Like YOU HAD THE INTERESTING LORE. Right There!!!

This feeling is what I've always felt was missing from the 343 era games. They seemed to want to focus solely on the Spartans, but the struggle of the marines and ODST against a superior foe was always one of the best parts of the Bungie games. It's what gives the games the feelings of a war.
@AManNamedHawk Жыл бұрын
And the feeling of desperation. They wanted the Marines to be “only human” compared to you: the Master Chief. Even so, players find themselves in the role of savior as the unintentional effect was making the Marines a sympathetic ally. It all began with Cortana in Halo 1: “Those Marines look like they could use some help, Chief. Do what you do best.”
@Gibblets411 Жыл бұрын
It's funny that the trailer for Halo Infinite looked like they understood that, but then the gameplay doesn't feel like it at all... Then again, I never even finished Infinite's boring ass mess. That has also been the case in Star Wars media, games and so on. Where the main characters, empire, republic, rebel alliance, separatist alike, dispute their abilities would not have been able to do what they did without the help and support of many common and unknown soldiers helping them out in the back ground. No mission is meant for spartans. They're meant for men, and spartans just so happen to be particularly well equipped men.
@TR-fq6uz7 ай бұрын
I believe the Spartan III’s are actually closer to what you’re describing. Colonel Ackerson, a rival of Dr Halsey, was the director of the program, whose mandate was to create an effective succession or supplement to the Spartan II program. Candidacy was nowhere near as strict as was the case for the Orion Project so there was a huge pool of people to select from. That being said, the entirety of the first two companies were destroyed in their very first engagements - 300+ losses each. This demonstrates an operational willingness to risk an entire company of “supersoldiers”, against a technologically superior enemy, for dubious gains. This wasn’t necessarily the same case with ODST’s, whose role was primarily either a quick reacting, trans-orbital force multiplier, or to engage difficult to reach targets without ruining the element of surprise with a ground invasion. The point is, though, that the intention was always to get the ODST’s back after a mission - Spartan III’s, however, were going to die whether they knew it or not.
@thinkingonyx8473 ай бұрын
They're basically special forces units dropped into hostile environments behind enemy lines hence, ODST - "Orbital Drop Shock Troopers". They wouldn't send expensive soldiers to train straight to their deaths willy nilly. Sure, the warzones are often dangerous and some might not make it back, but their drops are usually well calculated and strategically thought out.
@GH0STCCC-vu5rz2 ай бұрын
@@TR-fq6uz Adding onto that, ODSTs were also meant to drop in behind enemy lines to try and sabotage them. So sort of like the Paratroopers of D-day in WW2. Which makes sense, as ODSTs are basically paratroopers, but instead of parachutes and dropping out of the sky, the ODSTs are in giant metal coffins from orbit.

Halo 3 and Gears of War 3 were suppose to be the endings of their franchises. There was a huge hype behind concluding the stories of the two big Xbox exclusives. Then Microsoft had to dig them up after they were laid to rest just to continue printing money. We could have had entire side stories like ODST, Halo Wars, GoW: Judgement, Gears Tactics, etc. Some boardroom at Microsoft thought it was good to linearly keep the franchise going though. Now look what we have; Halo has been a entire mess, all over the place, and Gears is just a weird rehash where you have to read comics to get even the slightest amount of coherency. Xbox gaming went off the rails (in a bad way) around 2012. It'll be next to impossible to put it back on track without wiping the slate of the last 10 years of mud. Halo is trying to do that right now, Infinite is clawing to get back at the level H3 was; bringing back a better artstyle of similar Bungie era designs and a vaguely similar story to CE's. I just don't think it'll ever be the same because the magic is gone and they have been given a million chances before as they fail and fail again. We'll always have those nostalgic titles though. Preserved in a time where a video game was a relatively complete experience and franchises where not out for your wallets nor chasing trends.

@Meybi Жыл бұрын
Completely disagree, all early halo live action trailers were phenomenal. The only "lightning in a bottle" was Old Bungie and all the talented people at microsoft that helped them.
@SkyNinja759 Жыл бұрын
Halo Landfall for Halo 3, this ODST trailer, and the Reach prequel live action trailer. They captured lightning three times. It wasn't a timed period, it was the marketing team and devs they had at the time. They were in the zone and putting out insane content that modern franchises dream of accomplishing. All the talent is gone and gaming isn't the same market anymore.

People complained that it was overpriced, but it wasn't if you look into it. Originally it was planned as a Halo 3 campaign DLC but it kept getting bigger and bigger until Microsoft said it needed to be a standalone title. So Bungie said okay, but as long as we pad the price out by bundling all the Halo 3 multiplayer DLC on a second disc for the customer. They really sold a side game for $80CAD back then but it was broken down into $40 for the game with a mandatory $40 purchase of the Halo 3 multiplayer tied in. ODST's campaign and firefight is 100% worth $40 and the multiplayer disc worked as a copy of Halo 3 without the campaign. It was a true 2 for 1 combo and people were too blinded by "but I already bought the Halo 3 DLC" mindset to appreciate what happened. ODST is an underrated gem of the franchise and newer fans need to put respect on it's name like they do with Reach.

It's strange. Throughout the years I come back to this video from time to time. People we've played with, some now have moved on to other aspects of life, or we don't have as much time to be gaming as we used to. Some have passed on, and some have grown in separate directions. However, I still remember dropping in the pods and fighting the covenant with my friends. The years may go by, but it was a pleasure to "feet first into hell" soldiers.

Prior Army vet. I've been assigned funeral detail. This is spot on. It's wild because the military for the most part is nothing but jokes and ball busting but funeral detail and training for funeral detail is very serious and somber. Usually you practice in front of your command sergeant major for approval (at least we had to). The flag folding is very serious and there is always 3 casing stuffed into the flag to symbolize the seven guns firing their three volley salute. (21 guns) You keep a straight face and stay professional. Which is easy due to majority of military funerals are those of older men who died of old age who had prior military service. But a buddy of mine was on one detail of a fallen soldier who passed away from a car accident. Before they lowered the casket, the son put his toy car on his father's coffin. My buddy, standing stone faced, said he couldn't hold that one in and just had tears streaming down his face during the flag folding.

The clever use of the ODST Helmet mask is genius, like before they put the helmet on they were different individuals with their own backgrounds, but as soon as they put the helmet on with the mask turns silver, they became an unified force of ODST. Who made this short film?
