Hey Everyone!
This is the first video of two doing a full teardown and review of the newest Caline Technologies Isolated Pedal Power Supplies. I was given both these power supplies at no charge from Caline in exchange for my honest review. As a courtesy and support of Caline, I am also assisting in debugging these power supplies for any problems.
Currently these power supplies are not available to buy, but any issues found will be corrected before hitting the market. :-D
At the time of recording I discovered an issue with the CP-206 which I brought to the attention of Caline Technologies. The engineers are actively working on correcting the issue. As such the CP-207 model is focused on more so in this video. Each unit is built similarly, so the teardown applies to both. EDIT: This has been repaired and addressed in a subsequent video. :-)
Thank you for watching and supporting my channel! Please leave a comment for any questions!

Thank you for doing a full break down. People claim these aren't truly isolated but provide no evidence for that. They even state how quite the power supplies are.

Thank you for the review and your kind help to Caline, we will all benefit from it! Despite loving their pedals, I was a bit sceptic on their power supplies. Not any more, I need to finally get me this one.

Yes i believe it will fit. Its very thin low profile. Dont have exact measurements but I think they are on Calines website.

I'd be interested in what the issue with the CP 206 is as I've bought 3 of them in the last year and a half 🤣. I've had great luck with them so far! Ihave a handful of Caline pedals and would love to get my hands on a v3 cp81, really glad I've stumbled onto your videos!

The F1 through F12 resistors are the wrong value. If you try to draw 100, 300, or 500mA on the respective lines, the voltage drops well below 8.8VDC to power the pedal. I have the replacement resistors on order, and if it works I'll let Caline know. Trouble is due to the global component shortage the parts are back ordered till the middle of March from Mouser.com

@@Bassguitarist1985 I appreciate the info. I've had good luck with them so far, hence why I bought it for two boards and my demo desk. Though this could explain why a couple of specific pedals "didn't play nice" with others. I was writing those pedals off as difficult but it could be that those ones specifically required the amount of mA listed on the pedal rather than that being an inflated number. This gives me some stuff to think about, thank you so much for the speedy reply!

@@nerdebynature anytime! To replace the resistors requires SMD tools, but it will fix the issue. The wall psu is definitely adequate to power up to ~2500mA of current at 9VDC, not including the 12v and 18v lines. The output brick adds the isolation/regulation to each pedal.

I've got a germanium pedal which can't be daisy chained to my others. Can you use a negative and a positive polarity pedal together with this power supply?
@Bassguitarist1985
@Bassguitarist1985 Жыл бұрын
You mean the barrel is negative and the tip is positive? If so then both these power supplies come with a reverse polarity adapter that you can use.

My Caline CP-02 reads 10.1Vdc on all ports, even measured with a 30 ohm resistor on a 300mA port. Do you think it’s safe to use with digital pedals at 10 volts?

Hi, Whiy do you only test Caline products ? Are you affiliated with the brand ? Don´t get me wrong, for what I see in your tests and research they make good products at an affordable price, The issue is Caline isn´t available in some places, IE where I live I can´t even order them on line. Why don´t you test other brands? Just an idea for your channel, you seem to know electronics very well, that helps a lot. Other comments touch this issue ass well so I´m not the only one. Keep up the good work, It´s a great channel with great content. You deserve more subs and views. Thank you!

Hey! I certainly wouldnt mind if other brands reached out! Right now they are the only brand i work with. I started as a simple customer of them. I pointed out the noise issue for their 10 band EQ and since then they have sent me their products to review/beta test. Appreciate the support and watching the channel!

Donner has a power supply DP-x. It's operated by high capacity recharable batteries. As its not connected to the mains voltage would this not solve hum problems.

@9:30 - If i read between the lines of what you are saying here until about @10:45 mark - It seems you are thinking that the CP206 with 3 transformers, 12 outs and 2800mA total may not be as good/reliable as the CP207 also with 3 transformers, but only 10 outs and 2200mA. I was planning to purchase the CP206 because it offered 2x 300mA 9V outs and 2x 500mA 9V outs whereas the CP207 only had 1 of the 500mA 9V outs. I know nothing about this so just wondering if I was interpreting your slight hesitation and curiosity there correctly. Perhaps the blue transformer in the CP206 is different in some way allowing it to handle more of the outputs? I know nothing, so wondered if you could say whether either of these might be more reliable in terms of delivering power consistently when all outputs are being utilized. On another topic: The manual for my Earthquaker Devices Swiss Things pedal says in the manual "We always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple-output supplies... SWITCHING-TYPE power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise" You had mentioned that this was a sort of hybrid technology - part of which includes switch type tech - Do you think that this hybrid technology removes the "unwanted noise" that the manual warns of? Would something like the new Walrus Audio Canvas Power 15 be more in line with what Earthquaker Devices recommends or are these Caline CP205, 206, 207 virtually the same in terms of clean sounding power delivery in your opinion. Sorry for the long read haha. It is a couple hundred dollars more to purchase a Walrus Audio power supply and just not sure I want to go fully boutique $$$ It's hard enough out here without having to drop $400 Canadian on a power supply, lol. Thanks for anything you can share, Richard

I have seen that the power adapter for the input is 18V and 1.5 Ampere , so the max is 27Watt for the total power draw of both power supplies.
@Bassguitarist1985
@Bassguitarist1985 Ай бұрын
Yes one transformer is slightly larger. Switching supplies create more noise thus need more components to filter the output to the pedal.

@Bassguitarist1985

Center negative is standard on modern pedals. Long as the amperage draw is not exceeded per output should be alright.

@Bassguitarist1985
@Bassguitarist1985 Ай бұрын
No it is not it has separate output power sages, AKA linear voltage regulators, but they all share the same ground plane. This may not be an issue for many pedals but it is not True galvanic isolation like the 205, 206, and 207.
