In the last 15 years, we have been selling a lot of mirrors that the glass has fallen out of the frame for no reason. One of the biggest problems cars has been the Volvo XC SERIES. There are another 20 or 30 makes and models that have had this problem in recent years. Right now you are seeing a black pad. The manufacture of this product used a Mylar black pad, to separate the glass from the heating element on your vehicle. Most side view mirrors are glued to the frame that is attached motor using automotive silicone, acrylic glue, or urethane. Behind this black pad is a heating element. In the past, many European car manufactures did not use the first surface chromium mirror and those mirrors. which we think was made of aluminum oxide would turn brown due to the absorption of the heating element which burns the mirror glass. So they tried to fix the problem, however, your mirror was glued to the black Mylar pad using a rubber-based spray adhesive. So a good idea, that now has gone bad.

Thanks for this video. Now that my mirror is back on, I need to put the cover back on after backing into the garbage can. It's not snapping on, can you recommend an adhesive? If it shows, it's ok - it's seen better days! Thanks!

Yes the outside cover sometimes takes a beating when you hit mailboxes and door garage doors.. There are usually slip type clips That snaps it on. However in your case it seems that it has seemed that it is. As I glued the molding molding using silicone I would use the same product. To make it look neat apply the silicone to the housing 1st. However do not use much of it. Apply a very small amount small amount of the silicone.. And do not let it lose out. If It does Oz, let it dry and then peel off the access to the access. I have an xc90 and when i took the nail polish remover, it removed all the black and i can see the heating pad with a clear plastic cover. Is that alright to place silicon directly on?

Funny. The only time I ever seen that happen is when the mirror fell out a long time ago. Yes, the glue will bond to the heating element if the pad peeled off. No problem

Its actually ideal. That means ALL of the faulty adhesive has been removed. Makes for a more permanent repair.
