Last week, I approached a guy in Goodwill with an in box American Girl doll he found!!! It was a 2002 Pleasant Company Kaya! He asked if I were to have it, would I resell it. I said NO!! I’m a collector! He ended up giving it to me. 🧡 $19.99!

The pants on Cecile are Julie's original meet pants! :D That's an amazing find, I can't believe you managed to find Cecile in the wild! I'll be keeping an eye out for that Cecile cleanup video, I'd love to follow it so I can figure out how to clean up my childhood Cecile. Lol

How fun to thrift with your friend. I have checked out her channel. I will go watch the video. Just after Christmas I found a super cute American Girl Slumber party set at Costco for 40 dollars. She has dark skin and super curly hair. So pretty. I gave her to my preschooler. She was so amazed by her. She carefully lifted her from the box and said shes my doll. I almost cried. It was a precious moment. I have not seen her like that with a doll. She has lots of dolls. She still refused to take the hairnet off the doll. She has a my generation doll she took everywhere and a 2nd hand american girl with a short short hair cut she loves as is. So now she has this one that she is so careful with. Its cute. The set has a bed /chair pillow and blanket. Its so cute.

I also find American Girl brand vastly more appealing than other 18” dolls. I live in a medium city in Canada, so they don’t show up on the second-hand market very often. However, our national book seller, Indigo (similar to your Barnes & Noble), used to be an AG retailer for 10 years. They just ended their contract and were clearing out all remaining AG stock. I got at least 10 dolls, including Courtney, for as low as $35 USD brand new. Now I have no space or money, but it was literally a one-time opportunity. I look forward to seeing your restoration of Cecile.

Courtney is so cute! I remember getting a spiral perm in the 80s. FYI, a spiral perm with shoulder blade length hair take 3 rods per curl; my hair is thick, so I ended up with a headache from the weight of the rods.

I so wanted to be where you were to get those Ty fish (they looked like Aruba and Lips) I have a small collection of aquatic animals, including the Beanie Buddy Lips, and they're one of my favourite parts of my plushie collection. It was also interesting to see the Coca Cola pelican - he is also in my collection, although I have absolutely no idea where I got him. It was cool that you found Cecile! Congrats!

I got a 2007 Holiday Barbie in box for $15 at Savers. The 90s ones were around $60. They are pretty much worth the same. Not a huge fan of AG they are huge and expensive. Got a Wellie Wisher used because i thought she was cute. But i regret it. I'm afraid to even touch her because i heard their legs pop off. Didn’t see what the fuss was with the quality.
@xCanadensis7 ай бұрын
The quality thing with AG doesn’t really extend to wellie’s aha! I’ve never had one of their legs pop off and I’ve thrifted them! I think that was only an issue at first but idk
@iamsoverybored8787 ай бұрын
@xCanadensis Should, though, they retail for $65 that's a lot of money for a doll made for a 4 year old. I heard about the legs popping off from reviews. I got Camille because with her short hair, she's usually the easiest to get in the best condition used.
@xCanadensis7 ай бұрын
The quality is there but they’re not as expensive for nice as AG. I don’t really think AG dolls are worth their price (or anything near it) either so you’re preaching to the choir here aha! The wellie’s are quality in the sense that children can beat them pretty mercilessly and they can be restored easily. The vinyl they’re made out of is high quality, the clothing is very nice and the hair and eyes are easier to care for. AG’s have strings and cloth bodies and weighted eyes which are all going to be prone to breaking and damage and require special care that some younger kids aren’t ready for. I thrift my AG’s because I don’t really need to buy them new to have them in great condition because the quality of the hair and vinyl usually means I can restore them to perfection with very little effort. So I can confidently say they’re good quality dolls. Not $100+ quality though. They used to be even nicer, especially with the clothes and accessories but now Mattel owns them so… they’ve pulled a Mattel with them

She absolutely doesn’t 😭 it would legitimately only require conditioning her hair to make it perfect again, I’ll show it in a video soon. I’ve restored far worse dolls to nearly perfect condition. AG hair is easy. I wish people realized that but I guess it makes the second hand market better for me since people are scared of it lol
