Price aside, she looks gorgeous! Would've loved to have her. The colours pop and contrast so nicely. She's really, really pretty and I think Halle's face type transfers so nicely into doll form. She's got a very angelic and ethereal look to her naturally. If you are happy to share, what parts of the original Disney movie you believe have plot holes and moral issues? As a lifelong Ariel defender I am curious to hear ahah :)

I never understood what the hell the message of the movie is supposed to be 😭 I think plot holes was a bad way to describe parts of the movie being just… weird? Idk how to get into that. I think Ariel as a character is an EXTREMELY realistic depiction of a teenager but as a movie that’s supposed to have a feel good ending it’s weird. I feel the conclusion to draw is “you can just do whatever you want, including (in universe) illegal things and everything will work out! I probably should have made that clear because I think the “she did it all for a man” thing is stupid because she did it all because she liked the idea of being a person and felt trapped underwater. I think her dad/family situation was whack and he was way too controlling which prompted her to act out and the way he came around at the end was very sweet. There’s just something absolutely missing from the ending of that movie. Some kind of reflection on Ariel’s part. Like “DAMN I really was in a terrible situation that I could not have escaped without help from my family because I went to Ursula and definitely shouldn’t have done that…” I’d need to watch the movie a few more times to fully come to the conclusion but every time I watch it I’m always confused by it. It’s funny to me that Belle and Cinderella (as characters in their movies) get ENDLESS vitriol but Ariel doesn’t see nearly as much of it. Also Eric kinda bothers me. May be misremembering as it’s been a few years since I rewatched but… he feels like he’s not super fleshed out as a character and as a result feels very shallow (not necessarily as a man but as a character? Like there’s not much depth- though to be fair that’s every prince haha). I thought it was interesting that her dad is shown to come around and feel remorse for his actions (rightfully so) with Ariel seemingly having been 100% in the right through it all.

They used poly on a doll this expensive?? Wow, she's definitely overpriced then (even if it's not poly, she's nowhere near worth $150). She just looks like a big normal playline doll, and they could've definitely added a lot more to make the price worth it... Disappointed and definitely won't be getting her, even if I had the chance as an international collector

The doll market right now is soooo good but these companies are getting WAY too comfortable using polypropylene :/ I don’t mind it much as long as it’s well treated and packaged but it just doesn’t make sense on these expensive dolls from these big doll makers :(

I didn't get a chance to unbox her but she's sooooo stunning. I don't usually get the 17" dolls but regretted not getting the 30th anniversary Ariel. So I took the expensive chance and literal zero regrets.

I received mine on Friday! I wish they dressed her up a bit more for the price but I’m happy to have her. Her number is 202! I want to add my own details later. Maybe add rhinestones on the tail like the 30th Ariel.

She is absolutely gorgeous! But I definitely think i'm at the point where I don't think the dolls are worth the asking price. Like, they're very pretty and a lot of the value depends on your connection to the character, but I haven't seen a quality increase to match the price in *most* cases. The plus side is that these dolls are rarely selling out anymore. So, most will get some kind of discount before they disappear (hoping Tinker Bell gets one soon). Just a matter of being patient!

I missed out on her release, but I'm definitely, one day going to add her to my collection. I have the very first LE Ariel that released in like 2013 I think and the 30th anniversary one. The first LE doll is considered hard to come by and I don't want to admit the price I paid for mine when I originally got her.😅

I actually think the top isnt too bad looking actually! I personally think its pretty cute, but for 150$ i can understand why one wouldn’t like it, id expect like sequin sewed on top of each other to look like scales for both the top and the tail for that price

The details aren't their for the price. I just recently purchased an Ashton Drake Gene doll for $26, which has way better detailed. I should mention, though, that she retailed for $100 when she came out. Plus, I love that those dolls are so easy to take out of the box.

It weakens and becomes extremely brittle and eventually turns to dust. I have some Japanese dolls from the 2000’s with this issue. It also loses its shape and structure (in this case it’s wavy/crimped) prior to this - look up “Bratzillaz Meygana” on eBay to see. That’s the more typical thing that happens with poly but that’s the most mild issue. The disintegrating is far worse

Several collectors are claiming the 17" doll has nylon hair. Are you 100% positive she has polypropylene?

Idk it looks identical to the smaller doll who absolutely has poly hair. Feels slightly different but that seems to be product in the hair. I’m not really an expert on doll hair types at all- just go by experience. Most Disney dolls do have nylon in my experience but recently they’re switching a lot of them to poly (the ily dolls being a recent and unfortunate example). Nylon is very shiny and dense, it’s usually extremely easy to tell apart from poly. When I first unboxed her I was excited because I thought I felt saran but then I immediately realized it was the exact poly hair that the singing doll used :/ I think nylon might be THE most misunderstood doll hair fiber because unless it’s kiwi nylon people can’t seem to place it. I guess unless you’re used to My Little Pony it’s fallen out of favor

🤔 I have a set of quintuplets from the 90s and a few bandai ssc dolls... When I went to pull them out to display them with the rest of mine... The hair disintegrated rate in my fingers and I couldn't figure out what I did wrong... I'm guessing that it was the material that finally just said I give up and went to doll hair heaven?!

I don't think the original little mermaid has as many issues as people think. Rewatch the movie and really pay attention. Ariel does not give up her voice for a boy she gives it up for her lifelong dream to see the human world. Yeah, it was rash but she is a teenager and in a very vulnerable place when Ursula manipulated her. I could say more but this is already a long comment.

About the synopsis in the back of the box…was she going to win back her voice as part of the deal??? I thought it would be permanently taken from her even if she managed to snag the Prince and stay human by the third day, and that fighting back Ursula would technically be the only way to reclaim it 🤷‍♀️

Hi Canadensis, she is stunning I love so much her all look and that fact that her hair are smooth, moves and soft like Saran hair, but I'm agree with you about the fact that the caudal fin is not accurate to the movie. It's great that you have some tails for yourself, by the way, as I know to use silicone, I'm doing my own silicone merman tail and I will make a silicone bra and a silicone tail for my Limied Edition Ariel doll😀 I definately want to buy her but I have to wait until the new French laws taxes requirements about shipping made by the Europeaan Union have to be known by ShopDisney, because of that, they (ShopDisney) can't take orders from French people for now, that's frustrated. I can not understand the amount of people online(not just here) who are shocked by the price point, its been this price point for the 17" dolls since the D23 Jasmine came out in November, Snow White, Merida, And Tinkerbell were all $150.00 too. this isn't new for Ariel at all. i do have and love her though!

And it just seems odd that everyone is kinda newly shocked that Disney did it for Ariel. To be fair I’d say there’s a HUGE difference in the amount someone is willing to spend on a g3 my little pony than a doll. I super like how cheap g3 remains all these years later and have two of the show limited ones that I found thrifting!

She’s still a red head, much closer to red heads than the other Ariel dolls! I really like the bright colored hair of animated Ariel a lot too but I think this is a neat interpretation of the character. I’m curious to see how everything looks in the film as I haven’t seen too many clips yet

I am 60. My children were the first generation with Ariel. She has ALWAYS had RED HAIR AND BLUE EYES. This form of Ariel should have been a new character NOT Ariel. My grandkids don't want this doll. They know Ariel has red hair and blue eyes.
