XCOM 2: War of the Chosen OST - Metal And Steel / Squad Loadout Redux

Taken from the soundtrack, playas the new loadout theme of XCOM 2 when the expansion is installed.

When I played XCOM 2 for the first time, I played the base game and loved it. I had an amazing team of soldiers that I wrote biographies about, adding to the immersion. After I beat the campaign with my soldiers still alive, I bought the WOTC expansion and decided to bring the old veterans back, making up a plot as if the aliens came back years later for revenge and XCOM needed the old legends again once more (along with some newbies). I even made the crew look older in appearance, to make it seem as though time had passed. With this music playing, it felt so satisfying to see the old and the new generation together, to defend humanity once again. Such amazing memories... Easily one of my favourite games ever made. A masterpiece...

The original was energetic and had that "we're ready to kick some ass" vibe, and "Metal and Steel" has more heroic and hopeful tune to it. Dunno, it just gives me more of that "we're fucked, but we're never stop fighting till we retake Earth" vibe from it.

I wish the original track still played on most missions, except the ones that are campaign-critical (i.e., Gatecrasher, Avenger Defense, Final Mission, Etc). That way this track wouldn't lose its air of exigency as fast. You get what I'm saying?

I feel like this fits better, it does justice to the situation. You are not only heroes, but wartorn fighters, each fight is a risk of life, each fight is a stand for humanity which is oppressed world-wide. The original track doesn't feel like this. With this track I can finally look at my characters and wish I could speak to them, wishing them luck, as it might be their last time aboard the avenger.

original track is good for most missions, except the ones that are campaign-critical. But since ALL of your missions are critical in-universe (if you don't fight, how can you lead Resistance into fighting?), it never should be used. To be fair original track would fit really good into the first XCOM, there you had only care about efficienty

I want the original XCOM 2 Squad loadout as the primary theme song but when the mission is very critical because of The Chosen or Unfair Dark Event (especially Avenger Defense by Chosens or UFO hunt), I want to hear The new one because It feels like a "suicide mission" like not everyone can come back safe, and my squad knows it.

I agree. The overall scope is saving humanity from the iron grip of a brutal alien occupation that is moving to exterminate the species systematically in the background. The chosen just egg it on how much they and the aliens are villains in a good v evil setup.

Should have been the battle music for combat during Critical missions. Rather then the load out music. Having the reserved load out theme play and then have this kick in during contact would have been a more logical progression.

Personally I loved the original music as well. Don't get me wrong, I love this one as well and think it is intense as hell (especially around 1:05), but it does get old sometimes listening to this all the time.

everything XCOM does in this game is heroic, because "non-heroic" acts can't renew Humanity's will to fight. Every single battle shows entire Resistance that fight must keep going until ADVENT and aliens are completely defeated. Of course it has to be dramatic

The human species is being systematically exterminated under an evil alien regime. The chosen just emphasize that even more. Of course it’s going to be dramatic especially coming from the POV of the resistance. Everything is on the line.

I would have rather this play on critical missions. avenger defense, black site missions and such. This has more of a hopfulness to it that like "YES! we have intel on critical advent facilities that will cripple advent!" To me while bad ass it's mood doesn't quite fit normal missions.

I can't be the only one who thought this track was way too over the top for gearing up your soldiers. It's fine at the beginning when you don't spend too long gearing up and you haven't heard it a hundred times. But as the game goes on it becomes incredibly annoying having what sounds like a trailer for a marvel film bombarding you as you sort through all your soldiers shit.

For critical missions like avenger defense or chosen final battles, it's good. When it is played for simpler missions, it doesn't fit right, but otherwise it's still a bop.
