The selling point of these lenses is their maximum aperture while being full frame pl mount. That’s it. We need tests that show them wide open.

If you would like to see the technical tests or have some material with the lenses wide open I do have these available. Let me know I am happy to share. This test was as I mentioned based on how I shoot, which is usually in the T4-5.6 area. I rarely shoot wide open.

I really like what Team Rokinon/Xeen is doing. I think the price point per lens may be a "put-off" for most people. Keep up the great work.

Yes you are correct, its going to be a difficult re-education for a lot of people, but I can solidly put my name and work behind them.

Are they simply a rehouse of currently available xeen lenses or brand new lenses?

They are a total different feel based on my own experience. CF felt more vintage like, these really shined well for our needs

Nice to see all of the “low end” brands are stepping up their game. Tech wise, cameras and lenses are at a place now where we can build rigs that are better than what the major studios had 20 - 30 years ago. Would love to see how these stack up to the DZO Arles and older ARRI Primes.

Curious how they compare to the Tokina Vista Primes?

They are pretty close! Id say the Tokinas have a deeper black on the contrast. The build though on the Tokina's didnt do well out here in Dubai, the high heat we have here killed a set. Lubricant and O-rings were a mess. But still good lenses, Id say both are great but again unique to themselves

these are SP stills lenses in a very nice rehousing. Because of that they are overpriced.

We did test the lenses wide open and they dont fall apart you can see that from the Showreel, BUT i did mention this test was based on how I shoot, i rarely go wide open on lenses, I like to see the set and the great work art department does. @@markhobz as someone said below...one of the MAJOR selling points of these lenses is it's fast T stop. Not showing that makes zero sense. If you want to show how you shoot that's fine...however this is clearly a promotional video and that factor of displaying the lenses wide open is crucial. Rokinon will have a HARD Time selling these because of their tract record of being Affordable "cheap" consumer lenses. Hence that is important. Don't get me started on their joke of a 20k anamorphic lens which shows almost no anamorphic character...for 20k lol. That ended before it started.

@jambred yes that is true, but they do have a product here that I truly believe can be used on a high budget narrative. I back my work on that, and can definitely back the pricing on that. A faster T stop doesn't make a lens better, it's a unique feature for an artistic choice. Ive used many types of glass in my work that even start at T2.9 and are 6 times the price of these Xeens. I'm not saying that the Xeens Meisters are the god of lenses, but they have magically pulled off a new product that is unique to its own and fitting inside a new market, and that new edge is not because they are T1.3, its the unique and consistent visual language within the entire set.

@@markhobz You are literally supporting my argument. Yes its a UNIQUE feature and yes its an artistic choice which other lenses do not have. I dont care about another lens being T2.9 ..THESE lenses are T 1.3. Stopping down to T4 basically makes it look like most other lenses. The special characteristics are MORE apparent at the special low T stop of 1.3 where MOST other lenses cannot go. You did not show the lenses at any other T stop but T4. Again I say its almost a useless test. Most lens tests go from wide open to T5.6. If you cannot understand that as a DP then I dont know how else to explain that to you.

@jambred I understand what you are saying mate, and yes agree with you on those particular things, but as someone who has had the opportunity to use these and road test them for 8 months, I can say that the selling point for me during this R&D time was not the T1.3, it was the other features, which is why I wanted to show this through the showreel and test. Subjective i guess as this is what resonated most within myself which is why it is shared this way. As mentioned the material which is wide open at T1.3 you can see from the Meister Showreel if needed.
