I was on the impression that the Definitive Edition remade the character designs to be a bit more anime, but i'm surprised that the facial proportions are pretty much the same. Also, it looks so much better!

@Lyn oh come on! in the original and the new version all characters are the same anime style, the only diference is the texture and lights, you need to see the original artwork and the new one and the only diference are the lips and the colored style. i dont know why the people really see a real diference! this is know just ridiculous... this is only because have a preference with the "final fantasy style" that only looks "more mature"...

I do think Dunban looks a bit worse now. He's just way less expressive. For example, at 4:30 he used to look like he's in pain; now he just looks sad.

As much as the New 3DS port was kinda out of left field, you can't deny that the graphics did stay faithful to the original Wii version despite being a downgrade. I can respect that, especially since it was Monster Games that developed it, not Monolith.

I don’t know if it’s actually lower than the Wii version; my guess is that the blurriness of low-res Wii graphics masks the pop in that is definitely there. It’s just impossible to hide in HD.

They were a lot more blended in the background in the wii version and because of them not casting any light shadows it was obvious. Even in 480p the grass in thr Switch version is more detailed than the ground itself which makes it more apparent. The draw distance is the exact same

So many clueless people here and elsewhere...If now Wii had been in same league as PS3 and Xbox360, so it had been an entirely different looking game then, not that far away from the Switch version then. Wii's severe limitations forced Monolith to reducing the graphical quality of the characters for the expense of the environment in the game. Same thing with Zeldas on N64, since the character models on the 3DS versions looked exactly as the actual character designs which Nintendo designed them, but many of you completely ignores this, so because of it that so many still prefers the N64 versions, because of either nostalgia or that it looked more " realistic" (!!!) on N64. Everyone has its right of having different opinions, but sometimes Nintendo fans are just plain weird and very hostile towards changes which actually is more respectful against the original designs, but were massively hampered by the limitations of N64/Wii.

Lol It's not "Nintendo fans" that are weird and hostile. People hold on to their childhoods. Feelings you have as a kid stay with you for a long time and can generate strong attachments to things that would be considered "bad" or "ugly" if people were to experience them for the first time when they get older. You know, the Switch version is such a huge improvement and upgrade, (as it should be) but there _is_ one disadvantage it has compared to the Wii, and it’s that grass pop-in and stuff is much more noticeable in HD, while the blurry display masked it in the Wii version.

Some of the textures still look very low res. And that bothers me quite a lot. But for the most part everything is just way cleaner now. I can't wait to play this game again. (I've only played it on N3DS so this is like... WHOA to me lol)

For example, some textures on the monsters look low res in comparison to the characters and some world assets and Dunban's scar look bad too. But they're still good enough I believe not a deal breaker by any means. They're just s bit too noticeable for me. Overall the game looks great.

@The Ostrich But he's right. Compare the important characters' models to average NPCs in the game. Everything about them are just straight downgrades, looking like a ps2 game while Shulk and other key characters have modern 3D designs. Some of the environmental/landscape/topographical whatever-you-call-it textures are also inconsistent. At times, it looks like a ps2 game, and at time you're like "...dang, this is really a Switch game? Looks like a game designed for a fast PC." It's still one of my favorite games ever despite it. Still looks so beautiful.

As I always say, it is a remaster, because they used the original code as a starting point instead of remaking everything from scratch. With the XCX/2/Torna graphic engine, new 3D models and the remastered soundtracks, sometimes it looks like a new game, but the gameplay, map design and cutscenes remains the same (refined, of course).
