I can find a fault, lexus GS is a big motor with high mounted lights in comparison to the road. The MX5 is a little roadster and because of its profile the lights are much lower down. This is important to consider because the height of the lights can have a profound effect on the area that can be covered, and how efficiently. This will have been taken into account with the Mazda and the lights will, by default, be projected as far as they can to allow best judgement of the road, but then even the slightest dip or ripple in the road surface will create black spots. Theres another issue with modern cars aka the clear lenses (aka no longer cut glass). When it comes to projection, not had any car like those which can hold a candle to visibility.

i believe most drivers will be fooled by the glare on and around the road made by xenon bulbs but look carefully how the halogen bulb projects on the road , the light is far upfront and aims a bit further such that you can see objects which a far than shining on and around the road.

No boy. The halogens should be illegal to be put on cars, drivers simply can't see the road. After switching from halogens to Xenons I can never go back.

Jean Paul so you do not care how other drivers react to your bright light, one day a they well drive in your line.all the cars i have seen come with halogens bulbs. if your headlights are adjusted properly original philips bulbs will make the road clear for you and you won't shine on the incoming traffic. do not compromise the safety of other motorist just because you want day light at night which is impossible.

My car comes standard with LED headlights and the sharp cut-off line makes it dangerous. I can see the road well, but I can't see anything in front of me without street lights. High-beams fix the problem, but that's what they're supposed to do.

bakani baleni well hopefully in the future we can have both but I agree. When I'm on my bike I keep high beams because time has proved that vehicle drivers are a risk factor to motorcycles. Car to car I agree we both see each other so..... May cause a drunk to swerve away keeping you safe though so it does have its ups and downs.

I can relate to this. I've been searching intenet and youtube after getting the impression that after 2+ years of drving my VW Touran 2016 (newest model) with Adaptive LED headlights wasnt' as good as my 2006 BMW 3 series with normal halogen bulbs during night driving. Driving the VW in the night in 30mph zone on unlit road shows me the road immediately in front of me really bright, but I can't see anything beyond an immediate distance and can only go slower say 25mph compared to 30mph on BMW. Driving the VW in the night at say 70mph on an unlit dual carriage way or 60mph on an unlit single carriage way, I struggle to see if the road ahead curves right or left or go straight. In this video at 4:06 demostrates the problem. The halogen on the bottom half of the vidoe illuminates and let you know that the road curves to the right whereas the fancy adpative lights on the top doesn't. When driving in the night this is forcing me to drive slower on my VW compared to the BMW. Does anyone else has the same experience?

Bad test. The lexus has adaptive headlights, that move around. You should use the SAME vehicle for both headlight tests

I agree use the same light for a fair test comparison. The reflectors are obviously different. The Lexus is designed to flood light downward. The Mazda projects most of its light ahead of the car as seen by the dark area close to the car. The human eye is more sensitive to blue light so it appears to be brighter. And that's why cop cars have blue lights on top.

i would say that halogen was great too. but this is because you did not set camera to manual settings so it made look both videos almost the same

It's a matter of proper adjustment ,I prefer xenon both in my car and the oncoming vehicle if they're properly adjusted.

A better test for this would be to do this at a round in a neighborhood parking lot at night as when you are turning the round in a left or right direction. In a non-adaptive light system your peripheral view would be limited until the headlamps on the front of your car is pointing in the direction where you are going. In an adaptive light system, your peripheral view in the direction you are going would be illuminated by the adaptive lights. Very good effort but for comparison sake many changes needed. Need different setups put in the same vehicle. Just adjusting (aiming) the lights makes a huge difference.

Where do you buy H7 Bi-Xenon headlamps? I have a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi that came with OEM Bi-Xenons but they went out of business here in North America and I haven't been able to find a set since the originals burned out.

Any chance you can re-shoot this video after getting the lights set so that the cut off for low beam is the same. Video can be deceptive but it appears to me that the Lexus Low beam cut off is higher than it should be in comparison to the MX5. Apart from that the only thing I could pick is the annoying spots moving in the central light pool, the adaptive lighting does not swing into the corner's anywhere near enough IMHO and I live in the Snowy Mountains and do a lot of night driving.

The lexus seems to have a wider angle reflectors. Newer luxury cars always tend to have huge headlights. Of course a stronger light (xenon) will cover more area, but no that drastically. I'd rather see a test with the same car.

Shit they both look fine to me. In real life in my 02 accord. Omg halogen shoots out the same as my oem bulb. I think what makes it shoot better is the projector headlights or get it retro fit!
