This was before I was born, and for some reason I am fascinated by what life was like back then, what streets, houses, shops etc looked like and how people behaved and talked. I googled some of these street names to see what they look like now 🙂 Scary to think Tom and his friend will be nearly 80 now, if they are still alive...

This is an ace film, I could watch it again and again. And that groovy music at the end? It's called Sheer Murder by Keith Papworth from a 1964 De Wolfe library LP. I also noticed outside the newsagents the headline "The Queen in Ethiopia" which she visited in February 1965, so going by that and the rather cold look of the riders, that would be when this was filmed!

That's because British road rules were interpreted quite literally - maybe they still are? Anyway, they state that a vehicle should give way to pedestrian ON a crossing. When I learned to drive in the mid 70's I was told that I would FAIL my driving test if I stopped at a crossing UNLESS the pedestrian actually had on foot on the crossing!

6:00 The 'Queen In Ethiopia' headline on the left clearly pinpoints the filming of this PIF to between the 1st and 8th of February 1965, as that was when the Queen made her state visit to Ethiopia (which would shortly be followed by visits to Sudan and West Germany).

I usually spot most things, but 200 points and my hat off to you sir! A stunning bit of detection. I'll make a note of that. There is a continuity error there too. nice weather on the way into the shop, then the next shot is all foggy!

I'm not really that observant: I once watched another upload of this film from about seven, eight years ago, and someone else had pointed out that headline! I AM a little bit observant at times, of course: I once managed to work out the location of a scene in an episode of 'Sooty', purely based on the level crossing sign in the background!
