The mouth movements are better in bloopers than most released games

Its because they spent most of their budget developing the system that tracks the face movements, so they do rough animations first, which is why you see the tiger on the boat and no waves, then they record the faces then they finish the CGI. It's a really cool system which is why it's so bizarre they stopped using it after paying all that money to develop it.

I think someone bought them out eventually but I guess they'd have to reassess the financials before they look at doing it again. Yeah, had a quick look at wikipedia and it says this: Team Bondi was placed into administration in August 2011,[74] and was wound up in October 2011.[75] The company's assets were all bought by Kennedy Miller Mitchell,[76] including McNamara's next game, titled Whore of the Orient.[77] Rockstar retained the L.A. Noire intellectual property.[78] Some Team Bondi former employees went on to work for different Rockstar studios, while some went to Kennedy Miller Mitchell.[79] Despite the allegedly difficult relationship during development, McNamara maintains an optimistic attitude towards Rockstar. "I've no hard feelings about Rockstar and hopefully it doesn't have any hard feelings about us," he said.[80]

The method is also extremely difficult for the actors involved. They basically have to keep everything except they're face still for it to work. Add super expensive cameras there's just very little justification to use the tech when other methods exist. Sure the results aren't as absolutely perfect but in the end it's less trouble.
