As someone who grew up playing exclusively Mario platformers ever since Mario 64, I can confidently say I've never played a non-Mario platformer as good as this one. It's like they took the best elements from all of Mario's games, fit them together, put a Sony coat of paint on it, repurposed everything and then polished it into this absolute gem of a game. The last time I got a feeling like this was when I played Odyssey, and that's just about the highest praise I can possibly give a game.

42 years old here, and I am getting emotional. Started on a Atari, transitioned to a NES/Gameboy, Master System, Megadrive (Genysis), Super Nintendo...Then moved to the PS, wgich I had been against, so profoundly attached I was to Sega and Nintendo...and the first PS ended up becoming my favourite system of all times, topping the Super Nintendo. Tekken, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Toshinden, Soul Blade, Xenogears, Tobal, FFVII, Ace Combat, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Parappa The Rapper, Bust a Move, God of War...Legendary console. This is a throwback to this golden age era, with the Saturn and, later on, the N64. Amazing soundtrack, amazing mascot and amazing game. 😢

Also, can we please acknowledge how beautifully done the underwater level is? I usually dread underwater levels in games, since the mechanics are more or less off and it is a pain in the ass to navigate. But @teamasobi shows us that it can be done ❤ I absolutely loved the underwater level Everything was just so smooth. We cannot praise asobi enough for testing the game over and over again with different testers, so that even casual gamers like me can complete the main story without giving up.

There's a reason why - it draws inspiration from the "I'm your GPU" song from Astro's Playroom. Both levels are in a jungle setting (IIRC), the drums are almost identical, they share the same catchy beat, BPM and time measure; and both songs are in a minor key (B minor for this song, C minor for the GPU song). It's no coincidence that the song is stuck in your head (like the GPU for a lot of people myself included).
