XGP Guitar Body Build & Review (Part 1)

I unbox and get a close up view of an XGP guitar body.
Using parts from a Mexican Tele, Texas Special Pickups, and official Fender parts, I plan to build a gorgeous Telecaster!

Try Warmoth for the pic guard you were looking for. You can design your own within parameters.

The cut edges, around the neck pocket and electronics holes, seem to be sharp. On Fenders, they're rounded and over sprayed. That 2nd routing on XGP stuff looks like it's causing issues. Still, it's a real pretty Tele body.

Technically they shouldn't be exact copying fender but yeah I see what your saying

I hate their shipping times. I ordered a body for a guy who wants me to build him one up and video the process as well. Today is day 11 from when I ordered and still hasn't shipped. Crazy, I could have driven to Florida where they are and back 10 times now and picked it up. 😅

Tightness of the neck pocket effects tuning stability too.. the strings tension can pull the neck out of whack if there is a gap.

Hi, I would love to build one of these telecasters, and fit my Warmoth neck. As you have identified, the challenge is getting a good fit in the neck pocket. My Warmoth neck is 55.2 millimetres wide. I wrote to GFS and they say the neck pocket is "about" 55.6 millimetres wide. It's the "about" that has me in doubt. I wondered if you could please measure how wide is the neck pocket on your XPG guitar body, and post it here?

I'm guessing you bought an XGP which is American spec, for a neck that is import spec. and that's why the neck didn't fit well to the body. They also have Lido bodies and necks which are import spec.

ive been very let down by guitar fetish. the cavities on the teli body i bought werent square to the neck route, it was useless. their pickups are great,

I have had several XGP bodies. Their paint jobs are crap. Good luck on a Tele body even putting ferules in. If you look at the paint wrong it flakes off in quarter sized chunks. I have had 3 that did that. I finally gave up on those bodies..

Neck pocket is a big issue. If the neck shifts in anyway tune and intonation suffers. No tune= unplayable. Have to shim it with glue and same color wood.

It is a crap shoot with these guys. I got a tele custom body and the neck pocket was not routed out enough for their own neck, advertised to fit perfectly, would not fit. So I say, based on buying 2 other bodies from them in the past, is it is 50/50 that you will be happy. If you are not, that savings goes right down the drain.
