as a mma fighter i always thought karate was soft or that the true karate had been lost, until now i think the evolution into kudo is a great one and i think it has huge potential for mma fighter to learn kudo, over all im a fan now. great

honestly if you are training at an mma gym you are training in a bit of everything and so it does not really matter what your base was aside from some habits it will build. I'd love to try Kudo but does not seem any are in my area.

I've kinda maintained it's not da style; rather it's da fighter who wields it. However, with dat being said, training methods in most arts need 2 b updated and/or overhauled. Da obvious thing 4 most schools 2 do is "glove up and fight," but there's more 2 it than just dat. I could go on an' on, but I think I said enough right there.

Really well made video showcasing a brilliant development of traditional martial arts in line with what past innovators such as Kano, Funakoshi and Oyama did. Chasing Olympic status might be a mistake though, just look at the watering down Karate had to do to be included in Tokyo 2020...

I heard a funny story about how the Kyokushin founder, Masutatsu Oyama, tasked Takashi Azuma to design a new system that would substitute Kyokushin in order to improve the art. Unfortunately by the point that Azuma had presented a prototype, Kyokushin has spread so far already that Oyama decided to stick to the old system. Azuma asked Oyama if he could leave Kyokushin to further improve his design and thus start his own school. Oyama obliged thus Kudo is one of the few arts that branched off Kyokushin without bad blood (there are many branches with bad kyokushin history, it is laughable). If this is true, then Kudo is what Kyokushin was supposed to be. Which is interesting.

I think there should be rounds with and without the head gear, with mixed rules,, it doesn't make sense to have the head gear on all the time and messes with your internal compass and training reflexes. Other than that from what I've seen online,, it looks like the next evolution in full contact karate-style combat. It reminds me of Sanda, and even forgotten Russian full contact combat sport. It would be awesome if Kudo could grow in popularity and spread it's experience and knowledge among traditional Karate dojo's all over the world, we all know how stylized the original okinawan family styles became after being introduced into Japan,, this could re-liven them without losing what was developed in spirit over the last 100 years.

Now this is some working karate. Not this sport karate stuff where after one hit the pace is resetted. Personally I would change the headgear to something that doesn't have a full mask in front of the face to a more traditional boxing headgear but other than that is martial art (or rather combat sport) is amazing. It should be representative for all of karate

Kudo is the rarest hybrid martial art right next to vovinam, sambo kajukenbo, yaw yan and hapkido. These are the only traditional and rarest mix martial art styles that are very different than mix martial arts.

My only problem I see is that there's not a lot of head movement. Everyone is trying to take each others head off with big, fast punches and kicks. Which is fine because they are wearing head gear. I feel that they might grow a little too confident in the headgear protecting them and not focus on head movement and defense as much as their offense. They almost kinda eat shots with their headgear in hopes of landing a blow. But once you take that headgear off theres a big difference in how you want to approach that. Anyways still a tough sport
@scarred10
@scarred10 3 жыл бұрын
exactly correct,there is no defense in kudo,not head defense anyway so youd need to do a lot of sparring without the helmet to prepare for mma or a real fight.
@simonmagnum7821

I wouldn't be so sure about it : In Boxing, which is to my opinion the most head movement-oriented discipline, athletes wear protective headgear in all but professional levels, and still boxers are quite heavy on the bob and weave department, because it suits the style. Here the main basis is Karate, in which you tend to keep the back straighter and hold the head more towards the rear, hence the lack of emphasis on head movement. My guess is they count more on Tai-Sabaki (body placement) for dodging, and Uke-Waza (parries) from karate. As for the head gear itself, it protects from blows to the nose, mouth or eyebrows, but still allows "clean" (=bloodless) KO's, and any punch or kick to the head although not cutting will still hurt and disorient or knock out of consciousness. That blame would be better pointed at Kyokushin karate which, if very contact-oriented, prohibits fists to the face, thus creating a lack of face protection in its fighters (that they correct very quickly when competing in MMA though).

Kudo is very similar to Kyokushin Budokai, founded in 1980 by the late Dutch kancho Jon Bluming. Bluming also reached the 10th dan in Kyokushin, given to him by Kenji Kurosaki, who together with Ohama founded Kyokushin. In 1969 Bluming brought Kyokushin to Europe/The Netherlands.

karate is not a sport traditionally , its a civillian self defence system where any technique can be used . This style is a sport with rules and limited techniques . When people who dont train in karate make assumptions its soft they are being ignorant and dont fully understand it its not a sport ,there are very big differences between a sport with rules and being attacked in the street where your life could well be in danger where you can use any techniques to defend your self .

Semmi Schilt has a black belt in both Kyokushin and Kudo, and also Hisaki Kato knocked the fuck out of Joe Schilling who's a pretty good Kickboxer/Muay Thai practitioner not only once but twice. Not to mention when Royce was competing in the UFC, not many fighters were hip to Jiu Jitsu or understood what it was. There's a reason why the Gracie family saw less and less success in MMA as the years went on. Because the rest of the martial arts community continued to evolve except for them. The Gracies got their asses handed to them by a catch wrestler for fucks sake, and if a young in prime Royce Gracie fought in the UFC today the way he fought back then, he'd get his fucking head knocked off. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
