@@shortwavelistener thanks, same over here.. noise level higher than usual and very poor reception from even normally strong signals. I read the solar weather forecast and CMEs were on the way to earth

My FT991A has a really great digital noise filter that will reduce the background noise and will increase the audio quality of a SSB or AM signal. I'm really surprised your 891 didn't do better!

I've never been very impressed with the 891's digital noise reduction - especially in the city with high noise. I didn't have it on in this video - and noticed it didn't make much of a difference. It works ok in the field when noise is medium to low. My Airspy HF+ SDR radio with the SDRPlay digital noise filter works much better.

@@shortwavelistener That's good to know. The DNR on my FT991A has 15 different algorithms. I usually find one of the first 8 will pull out a weak signal. Algorithms 9-15 sometimes sound like the station is in a steel barrel. 🙂
