For Msindisi Sixhanti, graduating in traditional Xhosa attire was a powerful statement of cultural pride. Clad in umbhaco, traditional Xhosa beadwork, and izimbadada, his outfit paid homage to his heritage and the ceremonial traditions of his people. Sixhanti’s choice to wear these garments was a deliberate move to reject western influences and instead honour the customs of his ancestors. He wanted his attire to reflect the cultural significance of his Xhosa roots, underscoring the importance of embracing one’s identity in moments of celebration.
Sixhanti turned his graduation into a moment of cultural pride, bridging his academic achievements with a deep sense of belonging. His presence in traditional attire highlighted the beauty and dignity of Xhosa culture, inviting others to celebrate alongside him.
Sixhanti graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting at the Faculty of Commerce’s graduation ceremony on 2 September 2024.
