Agree with you , if for holiday only HK and Taiwan is same for me , visit one time is enough , the only different is Taiwan is much bigger so need take few days more .
I left as a kid 35 years ago.... I used to travel back for fun at least once every 2-3 years from '97-'08..... but now it's just so damn sad... most people are showing bitch face
As a former HK local myself.... let me offer my objective view: HK really SUCKS in terms of tourism & hospitality.... people in general look really bitter and unfriendly... and when you wanna check out some attractions, the entire mood is ruined by tons and tons of noisy Mainlanders.... but that's their style... nothing much you can do.... HK just fails to attract a diversity of tourists so in the end it just feels like a typical city of China with a few British colonial structures and hyped up fancy coffee shops....
Yessssssssssssssss me too!!! Left HK at age 5 about 35 years ago... I used to have so much fun travelling back every couple years from '97 till '13.... but then I took my kids back to check out HK again in 2023..... holy crap.... most locals were so bitter/unfriendly especially retail/restaurant staff.... the worst ever experience was at a ferry terminal when trying to find out more about routes/fare... the guy was bitching back at me because my Cantonese wasn't so great... but I was like... dude, if I spoke to you in English, would you have shown more respect? doubt it...
