Absolutely loved this video ! Left HK as a child but still remember seeing the bellies of the planes swooping over the low buildings near the airport. Also interesting to see the old logos of the different airlines on the planes. Very nostalgic to say the least…Thanks for sharing 🙏

1960 年代曾由媽媽帶着往瞭望台送爸爸飛機，也喜歡在爸爸位於西環的貿易公司用A4 紙畫飛機，當時最先進的機型還是波音 B-707；1986年進入啟德機場任職，工作至 2022 年在赤臘角機場正式退休；2023年再應中華航空聘請回機場幹兼職至今，緬懷繾綣，半生人與機場很有緣份。❤

1962 is my Mom first trip to San Francisco I think remember those day the flight required 2 stops Tokyo and Hawaii. then 1966 my family immigrated to San Francisco

Thanks for a very memorable collection of photos of the epitome of memories of HK to me. Born 1952, raised in HK and retired as an airline captain not so long ago, I remember cars stopping at the crossing to let prop airplanes to cross from old runway to old hangar back in the late 50’s. I recognize most of the aircrafts from the Auster, DC7, DC8, Vampire, Hunter, Electra, Convair from my childhood. Had the honor to have piloted B747 flights on the “Checkerboard” approach before it closed operations. Such memories!!!

1954 - Spits and Mossies all over the tarmac😛 I remember in the mid-90s the South China Morning Post did investigate whether a Spit had been dismantled, stored and eventually forgotten somewhere in HK. The SCMP confirmed a negative eventually. Great vid !

When you can smell the sea water, you know you have just landed at the Kai Tak Airport.

In the 1950s before the Kowloon Bay runway was built, the propeller aircraft had to land over the streets. The car traffic had to shut down. Crossing lights, signals and gates would come down until the approaching aircraft landed, very much like how a train wold cross an intersection nowadays.

Yeah, Siddy,, as I lived in Wong Tai Sin just 100 metres away from Cop’s dorms, Apart from the earliest runway, there was the planes’s depot (fei gay fu in Cantonese) right at the range between the WTS cop shop currently and Diamond Hills on Choi Hung Rd. iirc.

There’s Barracks not far from the runway, we used to say”hello, hello” to the soldiers,they would give us some foods, but mostly the dinner rolls, that’s okay, it was still better than spending 15 cents for 2 rolls that the hawker collected from the barracks close to Tai Shing St. area currently.

@@wongdaisy8787 我曾經帶小貧友，到機場兩端，宋皇台那邊開始，量度飛機起飛時的噪音，然後移到九龍城那邊，飛機降落時，頭上不高處掠過。起飛時的噪音，簡直爆錶，嚇死人。
