I don't think Cantonese and Thai are essentially related.

@@jackjackyphantom8854 Thai by it's core is of Chinese Origin. It's in Tai-Kradai language family, The language came to be like today's is likely because the southern Chinese people migrated here. You can see how the 1 to 10 resembles each other. Thai 1 to 10 nueng/et, song/yi, saam, sii,, haa, hok, jet, bpaad, gao, sib Cantonese 1 to 10 jat, ji, saam, sei, ng, luk, jat, baat, gau, sap

@@pipecatto First of all, many Tai-Kadai languages actually borrowed their numbers from Chinese at some point in history, these similarities aren't essential, more like external influence. And apparently, Southern China is inhabited by many ethnicities aside from the Sinitic people who are the majority, the peoples who are similar to Southeast Asians are actually ethnic minorities like the Zhuang and Dai etc. Just like there are Chinese and Malays etc in Malaysia, but they don't share the same culture. Also, most Southeast Asians can trace their origin all the way back to Southern China, even the Malays. Archeologic evidence suggest that the original homeland of Austronesian might be the area in Southern China which is now Fujian.

@@jackjackyphantom8854cantonese and thai sound very similar in spoken. I know chicken is gai and kai in thai. Its identical with the same root. Yue influence with tai kradai mix ancient Chinese

@@YorgosL1 Cantonese itself is a Sinitic language but with some Tai-Kadai influence, probably due to the proximity between Cantonese and Zhuang. On the other hand, many Thais stated that Zhuang has a lot of Chinese influence.

Cantonese 9 tones
@yickching7 жыл бұрын
joshua chan 聲 is not equal to 聲調(tones). “in Chinese descriptions, these "checked tones" are treated separately by diachronic convention, so that Cantonese is traditionally said to have nine tones. However, phonetically these are a conflation of tone and final consonant; the number of phonemic tones is six in Hong Kong and seven in Guangzhou.” Check more on en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantonese_phonology
