Well, this is very unclear and it makes it sound like Japan is the only country doing this to international students who over worked illegally. In Australia, you can only work up to 20hours if you have student visa or defacto of a student visa holder. I'm in Australia and it's as strict as it is in Japan, we don't get to know why we get deported nor second chance is given. If you work illegally, you get deported. Just like if you drive over speed, you get fine and demerit points, it's as simple as that. If you can't afford your living without working more than 28hours, you shouldn't consider coming to Japan It's cruel but you just have to follow the law of the country you love to stay if you seriously believe it's worth for your future.

Yuki Doi it’s a scam, the crack down should be targeted at the universities also.

@@mujkocka if universities are promising these internationals that they can pay off the enrollment fee only by working 28hours or less, I totally see your point. Gov can try to crack down,Which if it was me enrolling, I would still search to see if I can afford my living in any situations, not only to trust the words from the University trying to sell me an expensive course, I mean, it's not only Japanese gov or uni do it, it happens everywhere in any countries. You just have to know how to avoid a situation like this and know the condition of your visa) But it still doesn't make this documentary righteous. This documenary should have made it clear it's not the government or Japanese immigration laws that cause these sad incidents, but lacking in understanding between the internationals and Uni , misleading of those Uni or ignorance of internationals....

It’s the same in the United States too.

agree. But I wonder whats the difference of immigration policy once they achieved 300k international student project (留学生30万人計画), is the working hours check become more strict? or Immigration randomly pick student to be deported? thats how I get the message from this news...

They wouldn't have much technology to research on everything. They might just be applying through agency. They just want to help their family out of poverty. Plus, you wouldn't know what job you would get hired, unless it is the minimum wage. Theh have to study 1 yr of JP language before they understand much on the insides of JP living. Overall, they need to review the working-cap-policy as the salary isn't covering the school loan and living expenses(changes yearly).
