Much of this is correct, but the tremors in the Chinese economy are in no small part because the state has used trade ties as political clout, and when economic confidence is subject to the whims of an aggressive political group that will sever trade ties and stability for the sake of international bullying, there is no confident market.

That foreign minister were told to leave after he was caught with extra-marital affairs. He was given one year to improve his private life or leave. He chose the latter options. It's interesting observing Westerners trying to analyse China. I think this analysis needs decades of an individual absorbing Chinese culture and history by immersion in it in order to gain even the slightest insight. Chinese thinking, politics, history and culture have all been very foreign to us in the West yet we try to understand it with the same perspectives as we do our own society despite very little visceral appreciation of it. China is greatly misunderstood and we continue to allow this misunderstanding to pervade our thinking at everyone's peril.

The US recognises both, But like most other Countries plays along with the CCP and doesn't make a big deal about not having diplomatic relations with Taiwan. But does have a good relationship with them including security agreements. I've always hoped that China grows up and acknowledge their shared ancestry and cultural heritage, and that it's pointless murdering the youth of both, for what? I have a better idea, using an ongoing series of touring exhibitions from the National Museum in Taipei to cities on the mainland, to foster an exchange and a re-connection with their joint artistic and cultural heritage, missing from the mainland, due to destructive policies during the Cultural Revolution (not Taiwan's fault). There wouldn't be any point in not returning the first exhibition, because then there wouldn't be another. It's a win - win strategy because the mainland over time gets to see some of the most beautiful and most delicate objects ever made by mankind, their past. They would relate far more than Westerners to the old Calligraphic documents. Through Art awareness and shared values the political tensions could ease and hopefully thaw out. After all the money saved from a thaw would be better spent living up to some of their Communist philosophies , supposedly being an equal society. Time to live up to some of that, instead of killing the youth of both. Forget the easy economics of military weapons, and spend it on improving both sides of the Taiwan straights. One sculptural example, an olive stone carved into a boat. the top half, ornately crafted into an old Chinese junk with four posts and seats inside with half a dozen old men sitting around talking, each with beards and expressions. The scene a split second from a famous old play. The other half of the olive stone , the bottom of the boat , carved so intricately in rows of tiny Chinese characters is written the whole play. Unique . that is their shared history. There's plenty more pieces that incredible. War - What is it good for ????Absolutely nothing ! Anyone's welcome to post this on.
