The Qianling Mausoleum is a Tang dynasty (618-907) tomb site located 85 km (53 mi) northwest from Xi'an. Built in 684, Qianling Mausoleum houses the remains of Emperor Gaozong , as well as his wife, Wu Zetian, who assumed the Tang throne and became China's only reigning female emperor. The mausoleum is renowned for its many Tang dynasty stone statues located above ground.

What a magnificent beauty, displaying of the grandeur of the Tang Dynasty during the height of its empire under Emperor Gaozong & Empress Wu. I do read that out of the tombs of the 18 emperors of the Tang Dynasty, only Emperor Gaozong & Empress Wu's Xianling Tomb was not looted and remained untouched till today. Sadly, the other Tang Emperors' tombs were all looted over the course of history.( T:T)

Imagine what lies inside that tomb, real shame that they found the entrance but didn't bother to look inside, must be full of amazing things, would love if they opened it, same as the First Emperor's, hope i see what lies inside in my lifetime.

The tomb chamber is located deep inside the mountain. The actual entrance was sealed in 1960's and it is covered by trees and grass now. It is hard to locate the entrance without a guide.

The reason the tablet was left empty is because Empress Wu believed that no words can described her achievements

The statues were made around 2020 and it is quite far away from the Tomb Mountatin. Most of people won't visit because the statues won't be included in any of the tour itineraries. GoGrandChina will take you to all places covered in this video including East Azure Dragon Gate, North Black Tortoise Gate and West White Tiger Gate.

@@gograndchina This is weird. Why did government feel like to build their statue few year ago? Anyway They're perfect. This's nice. It's just not only me to believe. Empress Wu and Emperor Gaozong, they both had each other best interest. They protected each other.

The two statues of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu was completed in 2019 and it should be standing there when you visited. The stone statues of horses and officials have been standing along the sacred way since the emperor was buried here in 684. If you did not see those statues, you surely visited a wrong tomb. Next time, contact me and I will take you to visit not only the sacred way where statues are displayed outside the South Vermillion Bird Gate, but also the East Azure Dragon Gate, West White Tiger Gate and North Black Tortoise Gate.

Why we are called TENG LANG/TANG REN ??
@gograndchina
@gograndchina 3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean why Chinese are caled Tang Ren outside? If this is the question, here is the answer: Tang Dynasty was the pinnacle of China, in terms of culture, economy and political influence, since Emperor Qin Shihuang unified China in 221 BC. Tang Ren literally means Tang Dynasty People. There is a sense of pride in calling Tang Ren (Tang Dynasty People).

It was during the Tang dynasty that the Cantonese Hokkien Hakka Hainananese migrated to the south. As such in the South , we called ourselves the Tang people. I am one of them. Later we migrated again to the South Seas . In the South Seas we do not say we are Tang people.

One reason I read was after the fall of the Tang Dynasty, the foreign states did not want their envoys to continue to stand at the Mausoleum and thus decapitated their statues to erase any references to them.

Actually when I was in China then, my guide told me that there are a few theories too, one of which the cultural revolution rebels broke the heads and the other is a bit more superstitious where the local villagers fearful of demons and thus intentionally broke it as well.
