Randomly got recommended this while watching some other Chinese media videos and I’m really excited someone made a video for _No Doubt in Us,_ and for these two specifically! I’m a Chinese media enthusiast, especially of donghua, so finding these out in the wild is always a fun time. Plus these two are just adorable and ship them a lot, especially with how canonical their queer-coded relationship is in the background. It’s nice to see so many of their moments compiled like this! 🥰

They’re basically one of the strongest examples of (purposeful) Chinese queer-coding! Specifically, when he refers to the Guoshi as “like his brother,” it’s drawing on an ancient concept from China about sworn brotherhood, which has since become a euphemism in modern day China for gay ships. 😆 And that kind of lens can be applied to many ships, whether less obviously intentional (eg Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang from _Link Click_ or even the kind of “rival/friend” ships like Nick and Lynn from _All Saints Street_ and Guanyin and Yang Jian from _Fei Ren Zai_ etc)… Or the more obviously intentional ones, like these two or Cui Bei and Wang Qi from _Dalisi Rizhi._ Essentially, what I’m saying is that since Chinese media does face censorship, a lot of authors rely on queer-coding. When a series isn’t an explicit danmei like _Mo Dao Zu Shi_ or _Jie Yao,_ some authors will still purposefully hint at a couple being together. This shows authorial intent, so even without really evident kisses and confessions, you can still surmise these series as having canonical queer ships. In fact, if you still doubt the authorial intent behind these two, I can confirm multiple things: 1) they’re also very obvious in the original manhua this series is based on! 2) the writer behind the manhua also wrote _The Wife Is First_ aka _You Own My All,_ a popular novel that actually _is_ a danmei about two men who fall in love with one another. 3) the chibi extras for the _No Doubt in Us_ donghua, while not subbed at all, only add further ship fuel! It shows how our favourite little prince Jinming has _always_ been close to the Guoshi since childhood, with him practically falling in love at first sight. After that, there are a few episodes of the chibi series that even shows them hanging out as kids. ^^ So yeah, Chinese queer-coding is a very real thing and it means a lot of queer ships you pick up on can in fact have a canonical basis without even being explicit!
