The last firmware has improved it greatly it, as takes longer to overheat but clearly throttling more in games. So it will become quite laggy (Genshin Impact) before closing you out of a game.
@ekinteko2 жыл бұрын
@@Techtablets Hey. Just had a look at the teardown between the 12 Pro vs 11 Pro. There's quite a bit more graphite, paste, and copper in the 12 model. Not too dissimilar beyond that. So this is a Qualcomm hardware issue. It cannot be fixed by software, you either have to downclock this to normal performance levels (QSD 855). Or you have to put up with the processor using a lot of energy, draining your battery, getting hot, and then throttling it's performance heavily for that duration. I suspected this to be the case months ago based on the disappointing figures ARM provided for the Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510, and the financial decision Qualcomm made to stick with Samsung's less efficient node. It literally is the same scenario we had in 2015. The upcoming MediaTek chipset will perform better and cooler, but won't have many of the optimisations from the Snapdragon SDK, so that should be considered if you're into certain games, emulation, or Custom Roms. Personally, I think people should skip buying a 2022 phone. The drawbacks aren't worth the premium. The second generation of ARMv9 chips will be designed by the European Team, and they have a much better trackrecord. In 2023 we will likely have the unification of the trifecta: software becoming optimised for the new architecture, the use of 4nm-TSMC or a more competitive Samsung node, and the Cortex-A730 processor giving lots of improvement. Until then, I don't see much of a reason why someone should upgrade to 2022 devices, from the likes of an older phones like the: Samsung S10+, Samsung A52-s, OnePlus 7t, LG V60, ASUS RoG 2, ASUS RoG 5, Sony 5.2, Sony 1.3, etc etc.
@ekinteko2 жыл бұрын
@@Techtablets I also want to mention one other thing. Last year Xiaomi teased a feature they called "LiquidCool". They released the concept on a Mi Mix 4 prototype. Now, the technology is borrowed from other innovators. And the proper term for it is a ThermoSyphon. I noticed that Xiaomi actually implemented the cooler upside down in their prototype. Which is a disappointment from their Engineering Team. I already voiced my concerns about this earlier. Hopefully they will fix this. If implemented properly, we can expect around a solid -10'C reduction in operational temperature. Which is actually massive. And something like that is what is necessary to bring the QC 8g1 back to an acceptable range (think QSD 855 with small copper). If they implement it wrong, it most likely will only function as well as standard cooling solution, which will mean throttling. With that said, I don't think Xiaomi is going to implement this into the 12 series, even the 12-Ultra. I think they are more likely to do so in the next BlackShark or Poco "gaming phone". I still doubt they will fix the orientation issue. So the throttling issues you experienced here, it will likely be reproduced in all the other devices. Perhaps Sony will be better since they're more responsible/subtle with thermals, and ASUS RoG 6, which will combine a huge size and active cooling. But not much hope beyond that. It's reminiscent of the early Apple A13-Bionic chipset in the iPhone 11 series.

It's a bit frightening how your reviews are almost the only ones I feel are trustworthy, alongside GSMArena's. I'm still unhappy that you're not measuring reflections on the screen (huge issue in my sunny Provence, brightness is not even half the solution, absorbing sunlight glare makes a bigger difference, that's the one thing I miss about iPhones and Galaxy Ses); also measuring heat only w/o a case on is unrealistic because 75% of users have a case (last time I saw a stat on that), and generating little heat != dissipating heat well.

Xiaomi seems to be going the Samsung route with their top of the line phones these days where basically the only really worth it phone in their top line phones are the Ultra versions, and unless you have Ultra money if you're smart you're better off going for the top of the midrange of the same company. For example the S21 vs the A52s where you get a comparable camera but you get an SD card 3.5Jack while retaining full waterproofing, a 120hz display a charger in the box and much better batterylife the Mi12 vs the M11 Lite NE where you lose the 120hz display for a 90hz display but you gain a micro SD slot, better battery life and an actually certified IP53 water and dust resistance rating.

Fantastic review, love your videos! 6:23 It is really unfortunate to see the stutters, but I see it on all of my other Android devices as well. It doesn't fully appear to be a MIUI problem specifically. I can reproduce the stuttery scrolling in both the Play Store and Twitter app. Android 12 stutters in apps even more than Android 11 does in my experience, on all three of my devices. The system is mostly stutter-free on them, but scrolling in certain apps is very obviously jittery. Needs optimization from both OEMs and Google in my opinion.

Seems like Xiaomi 12 was rushed to meet the January deadline and they pulled a "Sony" where the SW is extremely late compared to it's HW capabilities. Xiaomi's cooling solution is one of the best, but Qualcomm does with Snapdragon 8 Gen1 what they have always done and what Intel has done for a few years now: make the chip competitive performance-wise, even at the price of astronomic power consumption. The Snapdragon 888 in my Mi 11 Pro is better at efficiency, compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen1, but still throttles in games and other places, like the camera. I'm sure that Dimensity 9000 will be the king of Android this year and we'll see upper-mid-rangers beating most "flagships"... and this should be a good lesson for Qualcomm, as it was for Intel when AMD dethroned them all-around, just so that they can come up with Alder Lake. Also, the main camera in 12 Pro is a downgrade, compared to the Samsung GN2 used in Mi 11 Pro/Ultra.

People blaming Qualcomm's chip for the overheating and throttling. The new IQOO 9 Pro doesn't suffer from the same issues, more likely Xiaomi 's poor optimization letting down their hardware as usual. Same story with the cameras too, they really need to give their heads a shake
@andyH_England2 жыл бұрын
If you check out the Iqoo 9 Pro you will see it is a mess with RAM management, awful and makes the phone unusable. Not sure why anyone would want the IQOO as for 99% of us RAM management is much more important than stress tests.

Okay not tested that one yet but good to know! I imagine later the gaming phones with this chipset and tablets will be great.
@abisheks52722 жыл бұрын
Qualcomm went with Samsung to fabricating the chips due to chip shortage instead of TSMC and thats tends to reason why the overheating issue exist

Samsung exynos rdna 2 is a must wait this year... Seriously snapdragon is going downhill if they keep on doing this, what is the point of faster cpu/gpu if is not optimized to avoid overheating? All games doesn't need to use max power since 2018 cpu/gpu pretty much can handle the job so they should optimize the 2022 cpu/gpu to adapt to how much power it will use same as they did to adaptive refresh rate 1 to 120 refresh rate.

I think it's more an Android 12 issue, android 11 phones are much stable. I say that because majority of custom ROMs based on Android 12 had problems (very unstable), pixel 6 had problems (and still have) too. User's from mi community China say that MIUI 13 it's much smoother and optimized than 12.5 enhanced, so I don't think it's really an MIUI issue. Also if GSM don't exist in China, maybe Google didn't optimized apps for this phone. *This is just my opinion*

Any new affordable budget tablets for 2022?
@Techtablets2 жыл бұрын
Yes working on one now the Teclast T40 Pro the best new affordable tablet. Still using the T618, but very good build, 18W fast charge, larger battery, GPS with compass and FM radio with LTE dual band. My video is coming soon. Maybe tomorrow.

@@Techtablets still t618 well that's a bummer it's 2022 already, they need to bump up a little bit the processors for budget tablets.

Currently been holding the Mi 9T Pro as my phone, but my phone subscription ends next month and I'm looking for a new phone. I was thinking to get the Xiaomi 12 Pro when it will release globally. only from what I heard of it, it isn't the greatest. Xiaomi hasn't really put time in their software to make it compatible with the 8 gen 1 chip and I don't know if they will. I also don't know if the global release will be better in terms of software and daily usage.
